Re: Crossing over, the 65 rebuild.

Windshield and rear window with chrome lock bead is in! What a pain in the arse the front was.

Tailgate in epoxy primer and am going to seal it and spray it today. The Mar-K doesn't use chains so I shaved the OE stuff from the rear bed area. Here's a pic of the gate, it's nice! I like the inner handle too, but when mocking it all up I kept trying to open it from the outside like all of the other trucks I have and have owned.

The cowl panel wasn't prepped when the shot it the first time and had some peeling paint and they had also ran the hood into it a few times trying to adjust it , so I bead blasted it clean and going to re shoot it too.

Masking the new caps up to shoot them pearl white and going to try to get the sides 2 toned tomorrow. Our car club has a cruise through the South Valley today and through 7 old covered bridges. Going to get as much done before I load the dogs up and head out.

The Custom cab option never came with a rear chrome lock bead, it's an aftermarket thing and readily available at any glass shop or restoration parts wharehouse online. It's bought by the foot off a roll and cheap. Once you remove the black bead , the rear glass will almost fall out so be carefull.

Re: Crossing over, the 65 rebuild.

I can't stand the " everything is Orange" theme on the truck. Yarded the panels off and are going to keep the inner area orange, tri stage orange pearl white the relief stripe and use the same brown on the column, carpet, visors and seat beading around the outer area of the panel.

Masked it up and shooting the tail end of the bed, blending the new tailgate color, hiding the smoothed body work rear panels and then reverse masking it to shoot the white tri stage. un mask the orange again and then shoot both colors with some clear.

Shot the caps with the tri stage pearl and I will let everything sit until the morning, unmask it , remask the panels and the caps and am going to shoot some more colors. Should be all done by noon.

Must be in the water. Here's what my buddy did in the 9 hours I was working on my truck. He disected his 78 chevy and is doing a cab swap, engine swap and refinish of bed, doors, fenders etc in the next week. He's like watching a one man version of Overhaulin

Re: Crossing over, the 65 rebuild.

great job on the paint work. its good to see so much progress in a short period of time. you took a nice looking truck most guys would be happy with and turned it into a real beauty. i'm starting to like it almost as much as the suburban... almost.

Thanks guys!

Finished painting the hub caps this morning. Man I wish my wife was a nail technician lol, masking sucks. I hung the tailgate , bumper, lights etc and tri toned the door panels to match the brown seat bead and column also to bring some more white into the cab. They were also dented up pretty good on the outer band and I body worked them to straighten them up.

.
Took it out for a drive to a friends place. My wife is driving it and likes it! Still have to do a spray in bedliner, detail the wood floor and letter the tailgate before I tear into the suspension.

Re: Crossing over, the 65 rebuild.

Thanks guys.

Bomp. I generally don't ever participate in the shows unless the parking lot is full and there isn't any good spots left. Its going to be a fun year. I drive a 50 burb daily and am throwing this 65 together for my wife. She's liking it better every day and am sure she will want to hit Billet Proof , Goodguys, CoolApril nights etc with a girlfriend in her truck while I haul the boys and our dogs in mine.

Thought I had the fuel gauge working tonight, but now stuck on half and after pulling the sender and reusing the gasket, smells like fuel in the cab. Good news, both visors are dyed and installed, rear brakes adjusted and 1 more burn out on the new tires! I'm kinda liking the V8 in this one.

I have 2.5 spindles and 2" blocks with a notch waiting and will bag it when I convert to disc. Going to leave the stock crossmember and a arms for now, Porterbuilt and a raised bed later.

Re: Crossing over, the 65 rebuild.

The truck is looking great! I really like all of the subtle touches (like the tailgate) that you did on the truck. It's a ton of work for something so "stealthy", but I love that kind of stuff. It's attention to detail, and your truck nails that theme perfectly.

Can't wait to see what you've got planned for the suspension.
