Re: LIVE bidding from Lambrecht auction on now
If all those nos and so-called "brand new" trucks that don't even run went for almost and past $40,000 then mine would have gone for $200,000! Cause they could drive it home!......well, maybe not $200,000 but close!

Not really. The buyers wanted what they were bidding on. They bought more than a piece of iron. Now they paid dearly for it, but to them it was worth it to be in the spotlight. |

Yeah , I have gotten some super deals at auctions ,equipment ,toy trains, and tools ...but you have to admit , the auction company did some outstanding work on this one ,people from 5 other countries showed up , as well as foreign bidders online...

Re: LIVE bidding from Lambrecht auction on now
Buyer's Remorse will be setting in horrifically for many.
The others have too much money to care. My 66 was ordered from the factory to be a county rig. So many of the trucks on these forums have so much history with someone who owned it, drove it, and used it. Families took trips to the store, went camping and took vacations. As far as these auction trucks? They're as someone put it; 'a glorified wrecking yard' - Trucks parked outside to rot away with no life. I'm going back outside to tinker some more on my 65 with memories and history. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: LIVE bidding from Lambrecht auction on now
I also attended the auction. Mainly because I am less than 150 miles away . I had plans of taking a trailer and bringing home one back row beauty for parts. As I watched the proxy bids in the preceding the auction I never hooked the trailer up. I almost drove my car but took the truck as their were some NOS parts and as I found out later many that were not listed on proxibid. However the auctioneer ran out of daylight and started rushing things a light became scarce. There was a 60-66 new take off tailgate that sold for $350 . 54 Pickup NOS Radio in the $700 range . 69-72 NOS Grille(not sure of exact year) in the $550 range . There were some bargains in the NOS part but it was getting dark and they started lumping areas of parts together. So instead of paying $200.00 for what you wanted you had to buy the lot that came with it for a $1000. Some of lots were still worth it but you had to pay before you loaded and the line to pay was long. It would have been dark while you were loading.
Here was another thing . It rained Friday evening the NOS parts were just on the ground so every time you picked up a box the bottom fell out. Judging the outcome the auction was smarter than me but if the nos stuff would have been put on proxi bid it would have be another half a mill. Luckily it was not so a few people got some bargains but worked for them. I got up Sunday morning and headed home. The main reason being even if you bought a parts truck you could not have loaded that day and would have had to come back on Monday as the amount of people and congestion would have been crazy. I saw a few I was interested in and thought about stripping a couple but would have ran out of daylight. Oh there was a 5 % buyers commission on everything. So add another $29,000 to the $148,000 Cameo! The auction was all about hype. National evening news, USA Today , History Channel, My daily Hemmings Motor News e-mail was always headed by this auction. After the hype it was adrenaline plus money which is a deadly combination. |

They could have made $5 a can on the OEM lambrecht beer cans.

Re: LIVE bidding from Lambrecht auction on now
Heres pictures of the red 65 that appeared late in the auction. Truck was stored in Fremont Nebraska, many others were stored in Kansas so the parts would not be stolen off them. Most of the other trucks were in better condition. This was definitely a new truck.

Re: LIVE bidding from Lambrecht auction on now
IMO, the owners of original unaltered trucks should feel great about there investments. The trucks that come to mind are Oem4me's fleet of trucks and all of 60-66's fleet of trucks. There appears to be a large following for these type of time machines in the collector car world. What they do to them after the purchase will be interesting.

Re: LIVE bidding from Lambrecht auction on now
I had read somewhere that a lot of the trucks there came from the factory with no wood installed.

Re: LIVE bidding from Lambrecht auction on now
That's what someone there started telling everybody and he was speculating, not true at all. Think about it, why was every nut and bolt there ? Why would GM send anything out with the bed not fitting the body lines ? The wood holds the body lines straight down the side. Without the wood the bed is loose , how can you put a new truck on a transporter with a loose bed ? Makes NO sense. All but one of those trucks the front of the bed was aiming down.It Never happened. You can see from the underneath the sealer is on the inner fender were the wood was and there were many other signs if you looked. Also think about this, wouldn't it be cheaper faster and easier to do all that on the assembly line with the correct machines tools and whatever ? How long would it take ONE mechanic in a small shop to install all the boards and bolts ? Makes no sense dollars and cents wise.

Re: LIVE bidding from Lambrecht auction on now
It's only an opinion but with all the other parts stolen why not a dash cluster , especially a new one ? Might have been the only one with gauges ? I remember seeing evidence of it being pryed out. Lots of tailgates missing one bed missing and many radiators in the trucks were gone. Just a guess

Re: LIVE bidding from Lambrecht auction on now
So what happened to the original $25000 sale of this late 65 red/white truck? Did it get resold again after the auction closed and why? It shows on Proxibid this truck and the 59 40 series cab chassis was not sold. I heard there was a quite a discussion over the 5 mile statementand where that came from on this truck without a speedometer to prove the miles?
This truck had more rust than any of the other trucks from my point of view. The inside header panel above the visor across the windshield was rusting through along with the cab corner lowers. The black 66 CST truck I heard the auctioneer said was going to Ohio and I saw pretty crusty lower control arms and trailing arms and the backing plates on the rear end on this truck. All the trucks you could see traces of wood somewhere under the lips and again another far fetched rumor of the day. Wasnt a dip stick in any of those trucks that wasnt pulled out 1000 times a day either. Everyone was pulling on the cranshaft pully trying to see if any motors were not stuck. I heard 2 of the 6's on toward the north end were found to be free but I never checked any.
