Prepping for the Power Tour

I am going to try my best to get my Suburban on this years tour. At least for the last two stops. It's been a dream of mine to go on the hot rod power tour. I just need to do a few things to it and it should be good to go. I'm really looking forward to seeing site members on the tour, should be a lot of fun.

I don't have installed heaters in my garage, but it has never gotten below 50 degrees inside. Dang good insulation.

Didn't get to spend the time I wanted to in the garage this weekend. Got to watch my 6 year old play some basketball in a tourny, his team took third!

I did get the spindle on the Passengers side, dust sheild is soaking in the parts cleaner now. We'll see what this week brings.

I did 3 legs of the '13 Power Tour and had a blast despite having to replace my radiator the 1st day.

Did the Long Haul in 2010 and then only the one stop last year, but it is something that you have to experience.

I do believe every car guy should experience Power Tour. Hard to give it justice over the web. But I do wish it was a fall thing, every time I've long hauled or done more than 3 days, it has ruined me on any other car cruise in the rest of the summer. Once you've seen the best, the stuff back home is just another car

I've always wanted to do it but my mustang wasn't a whole lot of fun without A/C in the summer. They did make a stop here a few years ago and it was a good time.

My goal if its somewhat close, to do the tour in 2015

Sissy.... I did 2010 Long Haul no AC at all in the C10. 105 heat index coming home through Mississippi.... cooler of ice with polishing rags in it, placed them around my neck, did the trick... That sucked.... might be why I just ordered all my AC stuff.... lol maybe your not a sissy...

Got out in the garage again last night. Axle flipped and tight, Pass side wheel back on. Its looking like the rear bump stops are going to have to leave, they are resting on the axle.

Worked a little more on the 79 yesterday.

Got the Door Sill plates installed, amp secured and wired up.







I started to work on pushing the column towards the fire wall. Then it was time to round the kids up and head in for the night.

Still a few things to do...

AC intalled
Engine Harness removed and replaced.

I have no clue, but for years I've hated it. You put a bazooka tube or some good size truck boxes behind the seat, and even me at 5'9" am eating the wheel. For years I had a small GT wheel on it and just left the tilt up. As I get old.... I find I like the OE look better.

Seen a few guys push it forward, I gained about 1.5" before the neutral switch hit the fire wall. figured that was far enough

you can get up 2 irrc without that. ill prob run a smaller wheel and cut mine down too on my next truck. the 67-72 trucks you didnt eat the wheel like that too.

Was able to drive in town about 5 miles and back, had baseball practice for my son. Riding a little rough out back, axle is hitting the bump stops.

I have a C notch kit, I think I'm going to go ahead and put it in. the 94 seat really doesn't look to out of place with the blue, but rather have a blue seat. Will have to find one.

wow I've been lazy on this thing....... My rear springs have settled far enough that a C notch must happen. I have the bed off and hope to get at that this week. Nearly time to have it all together, to put some miles on it locally before the road trip.!!!!

To me, the rear end is sitting almost too low. The front looks like it is just a little higher than the back. I personally do not like that on a truck, so in the future, I would be doing a spring rearch to get the rear up just a little. I like a little rake in my stance.

Note: You will be hitting some bumpy spots as you drive the Tour, so be ready for that as you go.

2 time long hauler... well aware of crappy roads... and I live in Illinois....

Yes the rear may be a half inch lower. That picture is a slight bit off, due to the front end being on higher ground. I plan to possibly use a 1" lift spring or add-a-leaf as time goes on.
