Re: Let's see those Original Chevy/GMC truck grilles you restored
I've done both a 67 GMC and most recently a 68 GMC and i'd swear they are stainless steel. they look the same on both the inside and the outside all over, and the black paint is easily removed with like OO steel wool, some elbow grease with no damage to the finish. Polishing by hand is also easy (my opinion) I personally wouldn't use chemicals if I could avoid it. IF they are in fact mild steel with a chrome job over (inside & out) it's a crummy job with little to no surface prep underneath.
The red truck is my 67 GMC before and the orange truck is the same truck after. The blue truck is my 68 GMC I drive today, although I Still have to clean polish and paint the grill on it.

Lee, the red GMC grill looks perfect, it turned out great.
I'm real glad everyone is posting their grilles and how to's. I actually seen a " how to restore a aluminum grille " write-up and the author borrowed a grille that is from this forum as a example picture.
