Re: Converting to Power Steering 68 c10 6cyl
U did this swap in my 77 c10 I had a few years back. Any time I saw an inline 6 in the boneyard I'll pull the brackets off them. I believe I still have a ps pump and gearbox connected to the lines buried under junk in the garage. I'll snap pics in the morning or after work tomorrow. But I did my swap on the '77 c10 with zero issues in one afternoon. Look for the disco-novas in the junk yard 75-79

Re: Converting to Power Steering 68 c10 6cyl
Mine measures 1- 15/16 appx. So yes it's shaft is longer. I'm going to try and add the 3rd groove on to the harmonic balancer. I need to first clean my 2 groove and find the 3 holes to attach the 3rd.

Re: Converting to Power Steering 68 c10 6cyl
The pump from the 70 c10 2wd, seems to be appx 1.5", but its hard to really get an accurate measurement as the pulley is bent. Not sure if this is a good pump or not, the shaft has a little play in it.
To take the old pulley off, do I need to have a special tool? Do you need special tool to press it back on? I would really like to have the ps pump align with the 2 groove pulleys. I appreciate the help.

I think those pulleys are pressed on. I think you might be able to loan a tool at advance or autozone.

my other option is to get a different pulley for the other 70 2wd c10 pump I have. Promlem is I need to remove okd pulley and replace with new one. Plus I need the nut on the end. I still dont know if it is a good workibg one or not. Seems to be alot of play when I move the shaft.

Re: Converting to Power Steering 68 c10 6cyl
Pretty sure the bolt is 3/8 - 24 x 5/8. I used grade 8.
It's worth a shot to spend a buck on 3 bolts to see if it will work for you.

Re: Converting to Power Steering 68 c10 6cyl
NC67Chev thank you, I will try and pick these up today. I got the 3 bolts from the 3rd groove pulley that came off the 74 Nova. They don't fit, seems the thread pattern is to fine. Again Thanks. Stay tuned!

Re: Converting to Power Steering 68 c10 6cyl
Well, you might have to clean those threads pretty good, especially if they have never had a bolt in them. They will have been painted over and there's likely a lot of grunge in the threads. The bolts I took off of the Nova that I got my PS parts from were that same size, but I had to spend a lot of time cleaning the threads in the harmonic balancer. If I were a betting man, which I'm not, I'd say the bolts you have are correct.

Re: Converting to Power Steering 68 c10 6cyl
The threads look pretty clean. You could use a tap on them, but I bet you won't need to

Re: Converting to Power Steering 68 c10 6cyl
Good news threads cleaned up nicely. They turned on easy, but for some reason it seems still doesn't line up. My neighbor stopped by and took both pumps. He's taking them to work and is going to swap pulleys for me. The 70' ps pump looks like it might line up if it had a good pulley on it. Will know tomorrow.

Re: Converting to Power Steering 68 c10 6cyl
Glad to hear. There are some setups (either later years and/or 292's...I can't remember for sure) that have a wider space between the grooves. This would position the PS pulley between the 2nd and 3rd groove, so that might be what you have. I think you stand a good chance that the one with the bent pulley is what you need.....I just hope the pump isn't damaged. If it is though, you should be able to easily pick one up at a local parts store.

Re: Converting to Power Steering 68 c10 6cyl
Here's a pic of one of my extra assemblies. I. Can't recall if this one came off a 250 or 292. But the just take it off a factory nova 75-79. Direct swap. Keep the hoses connected to the pump and steering gear box. No need to break the 2 lines loose. Take off your manual steering gear box and install the new power steering gear box. The only problem is if you have a 292 in your truck, you have to fine the correct brackets. That was my stumbling block intill started taking the entire systems.

Re: Converting to Power Steering 68 c10 6cyl
Well it looks I'm still on the hunt for a pulley. I think I need on that has an offset. Lik this one in the picture. Can I buy one or do I need to shop at the junk yards?

Re: Converting to Power Steering 68 c10 6cyl
That's what mine measures. Would it make a difference if you turned the PS pulley around?
