Re: (1959) fifty niner gmc all orginal survivor first time mods
@Flames... thanks for noticing.
@kim thanks you too its good to know some one is checking in regularly. forgot my camera/ phone last night so only two pics, thanks sean. so last night was pretty tame as far as progress goes. sean used the mill to make the double d on the end of the original steering shaft. then i used the dyna brade to polish and fit it to steering u joint. then i mocked up d/s suspension and got the spring perches tacked in. tonight will be weld. weld weld. grind grind grind. more and better pics tonigh, maybe another video. but with less of my back side facing the camera i hope.....

Re: (1959) fifty niner gmc all orginal survivor first time mods
stayed till one am last night.
body guy came to do a little pre prep. i got the cross member and frame boxing most of the way and will finish when motor mounts are set and trans cross member. also used the machine shop to make my own column saver bushing out of a dense nylon stuff. made a couple of these in the past for a sand rail and they are very durable in that enviroment so should work great and out last me... http://youtu.be/R5atyjsqX6U http://youtu.be/xqkAQ7dG2V4

Re: (1959) fifty niner gmc all orginal survivor first time mods
here are some more pics from last night got a couple little things done.
i didnt like half of the motor mounts so i am re doing them today. only 3 hours lost there. sean did hook it up in the machine shop, and we have the original column saved and almost ready to be installed. only need floor brace made and then done. also got the first stage of body work on the hood done and got it in primer. so now it can go back on and wait for the next sessions of body, paint. we are still in a crunch to get ol rust back to driver state before power company comes to shut off lights in that shop............

Re: (1959) fifty niner gmc all orginal survivor first time mods
Kim.
thanks for checking in. while it was "fun" to make my own motor mounts i wasted a lot of time doing it. if the future still has internet the next person reading this should just spend the $80 FOR COOL ONES AND MOVE ON please. got lots done. time is flying away and going to have to start going back together quick. i MIGHT have one more day with the welder if im lucky. this is whats done. the hood pics are just checking some rust preventive. we are no where near paint yet.

Re: (1959) fifty niner gmc all orginal survivor first time mods
today was the day i had to stop obsessing over the frame so the front of frame is now painted.
an extra day for it to cure while i recover tools and get ready to assemble the front end.

That really turned out nice, I remember when I painted mine, it had been metal for years, seemed like a lot of progress in a short period of time.

Re: (1959) fifty niner gmc all orginal survivor first time mods
My first night off in a month.
home and straight to bed by 8. back to day job today and then split my evening between truck and helping friend empty the shop. going to get interesting trying to beat the sheriff and the power company to get this truck back to a driver. i can do most of the rest of it in my driveway, wiring, interior that type of thing. so thats what im shooting for.

@clean square-- thanks for checking in, i hope there is plenty to see in the next few weeks.
@orrie g-- i wish i had more time to detail the frame but its not in the cards at this time. i would have liked to box the rest of the frame, and filled all the extra holes.

Re: (1959) fifty niner gmc all orginal survivor first time mods
splitting time between packing up the shop and re assembling the truck.
got a few things pushed forward. stripped bumper, cleaned engine for the 4th or 5th time, pounded out a dent in the inner fender and the body guy is kicking ass. thanks steve. also got the left and right spindles, springs and shocks mounted. today im shooting for the steering rack.........
