Re: Project "DV8ED" 67 Chevy SWB

Last one. After the install I can't express enough how great a product Porterbuilt has come out with. The installation was absolutely trouble free. Everything lined up and if you follow the instructions it's pretty simple.

Only thing left to do is clearance the rack and pinion and bolt it up.

That's what we have to tell ourselves to keep our minds on the project I guess.

For at least the third time I have decided on my wheels. They are Foose Knuckle 22x9 fronts and 22x12 rears.

Do they make a good wide 22" tire for that 12" wide wheel? The wheel is sexy, btw.

Well it's either 295/25ZR22 or 315/series. The 295's are 1/2 inch narrower than the wheel and are about $225 each. The 315 is 1/2 inch wider than the wheel and cost $500 each. I think with the contour of the bed its a good idea to try the 295. I hope it works because its going to be hard for me to roast a $1000 set of rear tires.

Yeah, a grand would be painful to toast. I have a 295/30r22 on a 22x10 but a bit more aspect ratio than the 25 series...that is LOW profile for sure.

35 would be perfect for the sidewall and diameter I want, and 305/series would be perfect for the width, but they don't make them.

Re: Project "DV8ED" 67 Chevy SWB

Hey chad,

Pirelli makes a 335/25/22 and a 315/25/22 in a "scorpion zero" for about $700-$750 for a pair. They are also available in the "p zero" but way more expensive. I had some 295/25/22's on some 10" wide intros before and they were stretched out.

Re: Project "DV8ED" 67 Chevy SWB

Frame is looking good, if you want a little more sidewall, I know some people run a 305/40/22 on 22x12's and they are inexpensive.

305/40r22 is a 31.5 inch diameter tire. These PB kits can only lay frame on a 30 inch tire, right?

I'm not sure, you might want to check with Porterbuilt on that. I know N2billet runs a 285/40/22 on both Hazel and Tiffany and that is a 31" tall tire. Also check out the build thread on project Lumberjack, that truck is running a 305/40/22 rear tire with Porterbuilt Dropmembers.

Re: Project "DV8ED" 67 Chevy SWB

Keith, you have billet aluminum wheels, I have a question. Do they come just polished? Are they also clear coated? If not, what harm would there be to get them clear powder coated right when you get them?

Re: Project "DV8ED" 67 Chevy SWB

My Intros don't have a clear coat on them, just billet and a lot of polishing a lot of the companies have many different finish options now, you might be able to get them with a clear powdercoat straight from the manufacturer. I bought mine from Travis at AZProperformance, he should be able to point you in the right direction.
