Re: Cross Country...or Bust? 'THE' trip!

I took a similar trip a few years back. Didn't get to stop and stay the night along Rt 66 though, but it was definitely a cool stretch of road. Seeing your pics and hearing about your trip is making me want to go back, or try another stretch of 66. Enjoy the rest of it!

Re: Cross Country...or Bust? 'THE' trip!

anyone know a good brake service place in sante fe I can trust?
need brake shoes pretty bad. truck is not stopping very well today.
grinding at right rear so likely all the pad is gone.
also what should expect to pay with drum brake service?

Re: Cross Country...or Bust? 'THE' trip!

Might be worth it to see what a Midas or other national brand chain can do, I've found them hit or miss and as long as you didn't let the truck out of sight you could stop any shenanigans before they started. Benefit to that is if more trouble starts with the brakes there's a chance you could find another one to do possibly warrantied work. Looks liek theres one at 3153 Cerrillos Rd and (505) 471-5500 is the number. I dont work for them or have stake in their biz fwiw. Good luck!

Oh and if its just pads and maybe turning drums, I'm guessing $271.64 OTD

Re: Cross Country...or Bust? 'THE' trip!

Sounds like just brake shoes and maybe turn the drums, probably around $200.00 with labor. Santa Fe Auto Repair was the only one I found with any reviews, the national companys Midas, Meineke Car Care might be the way to go for warranty problems if any, HOPEFULLY NOT. If you can just watch them and have them show you the old parts. Good Luck.

Re: Cross Country...or Bust? 'THE' trip!

Congrats on the sweet truck and best of luck on the trip home.

We did a reverse road trip last year after picking up our 71 SWB. From Santa Fe back to North-central Az. Had a blast and I hope you do also.

cheers

Re: Cross Country...or Bust? 'THE' trip!

i already posted some pics from the phone as we arrived at the Painted Desert for our hiking, but here are the rest from today! started out our day 'standing/parking on the corner of winslow arizona' i didn't realize they had a permanent flat bed ford parked there until we were parking to take the pic. pretty cool. we then drove out to the painted desert for some fantastic views.
drove back to la posada and ended the night with another fabulous dinner. Bison osso buco was ridiculously good.

Re: Cross Country...or Bust? 'THE' trip!

the old inn is very cool in the painted desert. adobe style but also apparently constructed out of petrified wood. beautiful decorative glass ceilings. the pics just cannot capture the beauty of this place or the depth and vastness of it all. You really have to see it with your own eyes. The other thing very apparent is just how quiet it can be. its incredibly peaceful.

Re: Cross Country...or Bust? 'THE' trip!

we stopped in holbrook for lunch at romo's and of course a pic of the wigwams.
and another pic of an old wagon at la posada. i noticed a couple of red desert 'paintbrushes' on our hike so we took a pic of it because it reminded me of how the red truck looks against the earth tones of a desert backdrop.
