Re: 71 NORRA Off Road Racer Build
Got Great news today , all the parts design and fixture design is done and the files are currently at the laser cutter. So now I am just waiting for the materials estimate so I can give them the thumbs up to cut and bend. I also came across a great deal on a 2003 savanna 3500 van which just so happens to have a 6.0L LQ4 motor and 4L80E trans. so looks like this thing will have a 408 c.i.d. stroker and a full manual valve body 4L80E O/Drive trans. I just couldn't pass the deal on the Van and in reality I can get a honest 600+hp on pump gas with this package so I'm convinced this is the was to go. Getting that kind on power out of a first gen small block on pump gas is a difficult road to hoe, if its even possible without spending a small fortune. Its just hard to argue with the performance of the 3rd and 4th gen motors. post some pics of the mill once I get is evicted from its current home.

Re: 71 NORRA Off Road Racer Build
Got good news Today but it doesn't offset the bad news I got Friday. The good news is the Estimate for the cutting and bending of all the chassis parts was right in line with the original estimate so that was given the green light this afternoon. Should take a couple of weeks to get the parts all cut and bent as could be expected it is a enormous amount of parts. The bad news was I got submarined on the Savanna van by the "next-door neighbor " of the owner. I guess everything works out for a reason so I'll be on the hunt for a donor 6.0L in the future but for know I have my hands Full. Now can anyone tell me how this welder thing works?

Re: 71 NORRA Off Road Racer Build
I have a brand new #4130 Chromoly Erector Set ! Sorry about the poor picture quality I'll try and get a few better ones taken tomorrow. Spent the better part of the day today getting the parts unwrapped and laid out so I can make sure all the parts are here. man there are a bunch! Also picked Up the rear housing and rack and pinion unit. I am very happy with the Laser cut these parts snap together with very little effort and that should make assembly easier. I have also been researching a new welding machine and need to get that figured out soon.

Re: 71 NORRA Off Road Racer Build
Thanks, yea its a bit overwhelming but its making more sense the longer I stare at it. Been doing some practicing with the Tig and I like it a lot I just need more time behind the torch before I start assembly.

Re: 71 NORRA Off Road Racer Build
Your build is coming along nice. Thats a great choice for your powertrain. Take a look on LV CL, someone just posted a LQ9/4l80 complete with harness PCM $1500.

Re: 71 NORRA Off Road Racer Build
Did anything ever come of this project or is it dead?
