Re: 1965 frame off progress

I did some more prep work today. Here are some pics of the firewall and some of the rust issues that I will face. I sprayed the firewall after I got most of the rubberized undercoating off just to keep it from rusting.

Re: 1965 frame off progress

I have been removing the rocker panels. My plan is to have the cab blasted and then order the patch panels. I know what I need to do to get this part fixed, but I don't know if I have the talent. I guess I'll go as far as I can before I ask for help.

Re: 1965 frame off progress

from what i can see in your pic's looks like you will need rockers, cab corners, kick panels, floor pan sections, front lower a panel patches, and cab supports.they have out a new outer floor section for the 60-66 that includes the full inner rocker from front to back and about 4 inches of the floor pan included that you might want to check out.don't worry your truck is no different than all of the others i have seen in my life, the lower rust is very typical in the eastern part of the country(sometimes in the west too).the upper rust above windshield is typical after the caulking gets old in the rain gutter and water starts seeping in on all of the bare steel under the roof skin.also meant to tell you there is a patch for the inner bedside lower section where the wood lip lay's at available now.good luck on the project and keep us posted.

Re: 1965 frame off progress

I ordered all the patch panels from classic parts today and also got the cab scheduled for sand blasting. Looks like I'm back working on the truck again.

Yeah...those parts suppliers love blasted plastic. I'm going to try to take my time and do it right. I haven't done alot of welding so I plan on probably having to blast some more plastic!

Re: 1965 frame off progress

Here's what I got done today. The lower A pillar patch actually turned out pretty good on the drivers side. It didn't fit very well on the pass. side and I butchered it up a bit, but I think that I can still get it to weld up alright. Hopefully it will be blasted next weekend and I will work some on the kick panels then the floors. I also wirebrushed the caulking out of the roof panel seam. It was raining cats and dogs so I had to do it inside the garage. Talk about a mess!

Re: 1965 frame off progress

Here's the passenger side. Again it didn't go as well as the driver's side. The outer rockers don't fit very well either....Triplus is what's on the sticker.

Looks good to me. What are your plans for the holes in the drip rail area of the roof?

Re: 1965 frame off progress

I am not sure yet. I'm going to try to get all the lower work done and then think about what to do. I may get my body guy to do it. He has already asked me if I wanted him to do that part for me and I told him I would let him know. That hole appears to be the only hole in the roof and it is above the bigger hole above the windshield.

I can tell you this, you made my night. All the work is top-notch, from my perspective.

And all I had to do was play with the computer for a very tasty tour. Hope you keep posting. It makes me want to pull that '63 cab off of the hill and start something I might not be able to finish!!!!!

Thanks again for the fun.

Re: 1965 frame off progress

Looks like great progress to me....take your time and get those panels fitted correctly and it will turn out nicely. It looks like you are using a wire wheel to clean up the metal....you may want to hit it with a flap disc to get it really clean before welding.

Looks good! I see now that I should have bought the outer rear floor patch for mine. Looks like it fits pretty well...

It does seem to fit in really well. It is only laying in there right now and I have scribed around it. I cut the rear piece of it off as I don't need it on the driver's side, I'm probably going to need more of it in that area on the passenger side. It may be a tad short on the front toward the outside but not too bad. The hole on it that is nearest the front is way off at least a half inch, but that's okay. I would love to see some pictures of this piece being installed, does anyone know of any?

Re: 1965 frame off progress

Did you get those from classic parts?
45-934 (1960-66) Floor Outer Rear Section-Rig1 $59.95
45-933 (1960-66) Floor Outer Rear Section-Lef1 $59.95

in the catalog they look like just the rear half but on their site it looks like yours is why I'm asking.
