Re: Project "Sleezy" 72 Highlander
Great looking truck.
I would SERIOUSLY consider installing a set or rear shock relocators to move those rear shock to a more "vertical" position. Right now those shocks aren't working,... they are just pivoting on the mounting bolts. An adjustable trackbar/panhard bar would also help to re-center the rearend.

Re: Project "Sleezy" 72 Highlander
Finished up most of the rear minus filling the diff and installing shock relocators once I get some. Also finished running the new SS brake lines to the front of the truck.

Re: Project "Sleezy" 72 Highlander
Spent about 2 hours scraping and chiseling off 40+ years of dirt and grease from the frame and crossmember. What a mess!

Uh, no. There are plenty (hint, hint) of longbeds that will give the swb a run for their money, easily. Nice green you got there.

Re: Project "Sleezy" 72 Highlander
It looks like you did a really good job cleaning it up considering you didn't take the entire front end apart.
Right now there is no through rust which is fortunate but the rust has set in and if you get to it right now you can reverse it all together. It will take about 40 hours, you can pull the entire front end apart, restore it and put it back together, it would be worth the time and effort. I think this is a great truck, I hope you decide to take it one step further and give the old girl a little more love. Last edited by Xeen; 09-03-2014 at 01:18 AM. |

Just remember that you are on a mission and you have to do this as quickly and thoroughly as possible so that you don't let something stop you from putting it back together in a timely manner. I say that because it can seem overwhelming but if you stay focused on the task at hand and concentrate on one part at a time it will go quickly and you will be done before you know it. Oh and hey if you find out you need to replace a grade 5 or 8 bolt here and there go to Home Depot they are half as much as Ace hardware. One more thing be very careful when you remove your inner fenders because Chevrolet used nut retainers that are flimsy and rust away but if you spray them with WD40 the day before and go very slow when you remove the bolts you might luck out and they wont let go on you before you get the bolts out, double soak the ones hidden up in the top of the fender. You will want to replace those nut retainers with new ones when you put it back together. Last edited by Xeen; 09-03-2014 at 08:16 PM. |

A quick little shot of the front. Also, don't mind the backwards rotor...

Re: Project "Sleezy" 72 Highlander
Bolted everything up and sat her on the ground to check clearances and what not. Drivers side is approx. 1 inch lower than the passenger side..weird Still have a lot of work to do. More brake line work, install brake booster/master cylinder, and tighten up a few things here and there.
