Re: Simple '49 Truck
What's your plan on fixing the rusted area where the upper and lower cab meet. Sorry I don't know the correct name for that area.

Re: Simple '49 Truck
Plan is to just weld them up and grind them smooth. Shoot primer and get it solid for paint.

Re: Simple '49 Truck
What would be the correct way to go about replacing g that area. Mine is beyond repair. Is there an older post I can look at?

Re: Simple '49 Truck
Tough to say. I would probably look for a donner truck you could cut out the areas you need and graph them in. You could probably buy re-pop stuff but you might have to buy the whole cab which would be expensive.

Not sure why but these made me really happy when they should up this weekend. I also tore into laying out the wiring harness.

Re: Simple '49 Truck
Noticed I haven't updated in a while. Got all of the rust fixed. Things have been a little slow but all of the plumbing has been figured out except the power steering which is proving interesting.
For the power steering, looking like I’ll probably end up using the Borgeson kit to reduce pressure and then a new flow regulator for reducing the gpm. I’ll be getting the lines built locally to save some money. |

Re: Simple '49 Truck
Here's a few more update. Back to a roller and did some minor body work on the cab. Should be shooting the sealer, color, and clear this week.

I was out there this weekend. Chassie is looking really good. Cab was in the booth getting body worked. Shouldn't be to much longer now.

Re: Simple '49 Truck
Got quite a bit done in the past couple weeks. The drive train is completely back together just need to get the fuel lines ran. Hoping to get on that this week. I also got the power steering pressure regulator shimmed and installed the flow reducer. Need to get the P/S lines made and installed. Also hoping to do that this week. The brake lines might happen this week but probably not. The radiator hoses are in and got the steam vent plumbed. Also working to get the trans cooler hooked up.
I wasn’t going to have the entire truck blasted but it turned out to be quicker as some of the grey primer from the previous owner was starting to flake off pretty bad. After everything was blasted there were about 5 minor pin holes in all of the fenders. I was pretty happy with that. Everything has since been filled, primed and color flew yesterday. I’m a little torn because when I set out to on this build I wasn’t going to paint it. The wife, and others, talked me into it and I love what it looks like but it definitely doesn’t look like an old truck anymore. |
