Re: My 52 GMC Build

I'm soon going to start making my box. I have the front, a tailgate and the fenders, just making box sides and stake pockets. Can any of you guys give me the dimensions of the box sides. I know the box is 78" long and 50" wide. I need to know how tall the vertical sides are, how long the 45 degree angled part is, what the tube diameter is and top of fender to tube. Also dimensions of stake pockets
Thanks a bunch

The bed height you should be able to find in here: GM Heritage Centre information pack

If you just want the heritage centre page, here it is.

The rest I'll let someone with the right year answer. My 46 has a different bed.

Re: My 52 GMC Build

Got my battery box's made. The battery's are 7.5"X 12"X 7.5" and are 50lb each. The outside of the box's are 50", so I can bolt the box side's right to them and gives me 1/2" extra for battery's. The sheet metal is to protect from tire projectiles and is 1/8" thick.

Well, we know those battery trays won't fall off.

They look very robust, nice work!

Re: My 52 GMC Build

Nice work for sure! You'll want a stout battery box in case of a tire blow out. Keep up the great work!

Thanks Jim I did get what I needed. When I picked up my air compressors from "air assisted" today, they are working on a 1950 chev so I just measured it.

ETA: From my original goal, I have a year and a half left to get it done. Everything is coming together much faster than I originally thought, but still lots to do. Yes so excited !!!!!

Re: My 52 GMC Build

Got it all wired up today, then tested. Just one leek. The compressors are quite quiet up to 200psi, with 150psi in the front bags it lifts the truck 5.5" that should work. I can lift it up to that height without the compressors turning on too. Got all the wires and hoses close to where they will end up once I have the frame finished. The gauges will end up on the transmission hump in front of the shifter, once I have it built.

Re: My 52 GMC Build

Been a while had to do some house and daily driver repairs.
Got my box sides bent up. Started trimming for wheel clearance.
Chopped 3" off the bottom of the fender to get it to the height I'm going with.
It's all just clamped now I had to see what it would look like.
The rear is being bolted to my battery boxes and brackets off the frame for the front.
