Re: 69 C20 Daily Driver build
I am doing everything myself. I think this is my 6th weekend working on it.

Re: 69 C20 Daily Driver build
Well last night I got a few parts painted, installed the steering column, brake booster, seat, seat belts, along with a lot of small little things. I have a bunch of little things to work on this morning and then get the bed on and start with the wiring. Here are a few photos from yesterday

Re: 69 C20 Daily Driver build
Good to see another C20 getting some attention. You are flying on this thing. Keep at it or the 71 will start calling for attention and you'll never get done! Trust me, I speak from experience with projects losing momentum due to changing priorities. Just look at my thread for proof...
I was thinking 3.55 gears were a little highwayish for a C20, but then remembered this is a big block truck (lucky dog). I'll be following along!

It is a single stage. Did not come out all that good as It was really cold when I was painting.

I wish it had a higher gear like a 3.07 as I will be driving about 80 miles a day on the interstate where the speed limit is 80 MPH.

Re: 69 C20 Daily Driver build
So today I got the bed on and finished up a few little things in the inside. I am now working on the wiring. I have 3 bad wiring harnesses and I am combining them to make one that works. I got side tracked by installing a volt meter from a 87 truck and a tach that had a broken housing that has been floating around for years.
This was what the wiring looked like on the harness out of the 69 truck at the ignition switch.

Re: 69 C20 Daily Driver build
I also just hit the $2000 mark. Still need a parking brake cable as the one I have is a 69 but I 68 cab and using the 68 park brake lever.
Also need tires but plan to look for some good use tires. Right now it has 245 75 16 on it. I am thinking about going with a 265 75 16, any thoughts? I had a C20 suburban and a 265 75 17 hit the fender when I turned the wheel. I hope with the shorter 16 in wheel it will not.

Re: 69 C20 Daily Driver build
I know the gage needles are normally orange but I had red and orange means spending more money.

Re: 69 C20 Daily Driver build
Still doesn't look bad. It's hard to control temps in anything but a real booth. Or keep trash out of it, like when your neighbor decides to cut the grass when you're painting...just ask me, I'll tell you ;-)

Re: 69 C20 Daily Driver build
I'll never understand why people think it's a good idea to butcher ignition wires.

Re: 69 C20 Daily Driver build
So got it running. The starter when I got it was messed up due to having the wrong bolts in it. I took a chance with the flywheel but it's going to need to be replaced. Also will need to replace or rebuild the carborator.

Re: 69 C20 Daily Driver build
Long work week and part of it was out of state so today was the first in a while to work on the truck. Started out with a junk yard run and went to 4 different junk yards looking for a decent carburetor. No luck but did find a heater control for $12 and a wheel with a good tire for $20.00. Also finished with the flywheel change, got all the parking brake stuff finished and painted the grill letters.

Re: 69 C20 Daily Driver build
I'm going to have to look in my shed, but I may have the old carb off mine that I'll give you if it's still out there. It was the Q-Jet, and rebuilt just before I tore the truck down.

Re: 69 C20 Daily Driver build
I looked everywhere. I must have thrown the carb out when I decided to go F.I.

Re: 69 C20 Daily Driver build
So a busy week at work ending in my son braking his foot. Then my grandfathers vice that I inherited many years ago broke and smashed my foot. Next week is a week long ski trip.....
We'll the control arm shafts all had between 1/4 to 1/2 of a inch of play. Never seen that kind of play on one of these trucks. Turned out the nut on the pitman arm that holds it to the gear box was hand tight and I did not even need a puller as it fell off after I took the nut off. Still waiting on the lower control arm shaft kits but have everything else, we'll with the exception of a new bench vice.

Re: 69 C20 Daily Driver build
I also changed the intake so that I can use a different carb that I had.
