Re: I want to build a driver K10

Another vote for LS swapping one of your rigs. Did so on my '72 K10 and with a 2" lift, 33" BFGs, and 3.73 diff, and am getting 18-20mpg, can cruise at 75mph no problem, and way more HP than with the old 350. Advance Adapters makes an adapter for 4L60/80 to NP205. If you do all the work yourself and find a decent used engine it doesn't have to be any more expensive than what you're already planning. Not trying to talk you into it, it's just awfully nice...

Also, I second the notion that 33's on a 6" lift will look a little underwhelming. 33's fit on some stock trucks and look pretty good on 2", IMO. You might need 35's or even 37's, and then you can kiss your mileage goodbye!

Have fun regardless of what you decide, and post some dang photos!

Re: I want to build a driver K10

Here's a recap of what I am out to accomplish: I want a brand new 1972 Chevy 4x4 with a lift kit and overdrive for under $10,000. I do not drive my truck on a regular basis because in all reality, my car is more comfortable for me since I am over 6' tall. I just want something shiney and reliable that is ready to go when I need it without making me feel like I have a bankroll laying around if it sits for a couple weeks at a time. Annual mileage will probably be less than 5,000. I do not plan on doing any heavy towing or mudding with it. I live by the concept that less parts equals less things that can go wrong. I do not want to dedicate a whole lot of time and money into this because besides having several other projects that I am tinkering with I also have a full time job and a house to maintain on a single income. I can always add or change things later if I so desire but in the meantime I just want to get a mental idea of what combo will work best for my needs and what I will need to gather up. Here's what I am thinking of so far: 1972 K10 donor $900(already lined up and it's a 99% complete truck), new 350 $1500, rebuilt 700r4 $800,NP205 and axles are already in the donor truck but new u joints tie rods brakes exhaust system(duals off the rams horns) etc $1000, then I would look for a donor body, I see a lot of decent c10's for under 5 grand, that would pretty much leave me with enough for a set of used tires( I figure if I experiment with used I can try different combos to see what works best). I already have the lift kit. 2-3 weekends to throw it all together and I would be on the road.

No disrespect but it was only a bit over 12 hours from your first post today to your last... Not sure why your "closing the garage door" but you've really got to understand that people here all have different ideas and opinions. You stated your plan and I'm sure more people will comment and give their opinions on your ideas. It sounds to me like you've got your plan set so now it's all about execution. We all like pictures as well!

Carb it up, then, my man! You were looking for opinions on driver K10's, and a few of us gave 'em. Good luck on the project!

Re: I want to build a driver K10

Now you did it, we are all waiting to see what is going to happen behind the "closed doors". We live for pictures is what we meant.
I think the LS ideas of today are great, not where I live in the boonies though, everything is twice as much to buy here at a wrecker or ship here, have thought of it but cost is big when they don't hardly ever leave the driveway. Had one in a W6 Trans Am that had some perf work done, nice engines for sure but I live for big blocks and helping fund the gas stations.

10037353 is the 195hp but with intake and headers will make 260hp.

Re: I want to build a driver K10

Maybe you can get the moderators to move this thread to the 4x4 projects and builds section??

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/f...play.php?f=141

Start typing your reply then hit the advanced tab, scroll down to Manage attachments and click it, click browse and search for the pic you want, you can add 5 at a time before you hit the upload button. If they are too large they won't load, when i save my cell phone (Samsung) pictures to my computer i do it at 30% and i get nice sized pic's that download to the forum just fine..

Ok i just went thru this thread... Build what you want that's all that matters!

I have a mildly built 350/Th350 stock combo with 4:10's on 33's and i'm happy with it, i did loose a little off the bottom going from stock to33's. I do think any larger of tire may require 4:56's but i don't know anything about the tranny your gonna use, build it and see if your happy, if not work on a fix then.

You can let this thread die and just start a new thread in the builds section. Oh, i do agree on keeping all the paperwork for licensing requirements.
