Re: 1949 AD truck 'Chevy-49'
Rear floor is removed, will ad a cross member before I weld the new panel in.
Tomorrow we will tilt the cab on his back, to get better access to the bottom of the floor pan. |

Re: 1949 AD truck 'Chevy-49'
Cab is on his back and trimmed the cab supports to weld the rear reinforcement tube on.
Rear tube ready to weld. Added also extra tubes for reinforcement. I also read a few posts about removing the rear seat support, I would also like to remove rear seat support. Can I remove the rear seat supports do you think ? |

Re: 1949 AD truck 'Chevy-49'
I removed mine, haven't noticed any problems ... it wasn't connected on either side, anyway . But seriously, that piece lent rigidity to the floor left to right, because there was no link between the cab mounts. With that reinforcement tube welded in there, you'll have no problems removing it.

Re: 1949 AD truck 'Chevy-49'
That floor is coming out quite well! Does your truck still have the angle braces from the door pillar to the inner cab corner? Mine were both damaged and had to be tossed.

Who did you buy the floor and firewall kit from?. They look like solid and good quality.

Re: 1949 AD truck 'Chevy-49'
Hey Chevy 49, progress looks good, about the top vent, I filled the vent on my '54 back in the day, it looked good and I thought all would be fine because I was going to install AC anyway. Anytime I had the windows down at highway speeds and no vent to open there was a lot of air buffeting in the cab. On my current AD I rebuilt the top and side vent and use them both. It makes a world of difference in the cap pressures having the ability to open the vents and have the air flow through the cab. If you have a buddy with working vents try a test drive with vent open and closed and you'll see what I mean.
Metal work looks great, keep up the pictures. Rob

Very nice work! I'm at the same stage making the same rust repairs to my truck right now so this is really interesting. Great job on the floors!

Re: 1949 AD truck 'Chevy-49'
@ Rob,
Thanks for your tip about the cab ventilation, I drove the truck several years ago and did not drive with the vents open, hmmm... maybe electric windows will help. @ Scott2 Thanks, that's the way I did get also all the information I need(ed). This week bought a new welder, tried a lot of (test) welds to get the settings right, first welds to the cab: Left cab corner is also in, need to trim the door gap later. Fuel filler patch is in. |

Re: 1949 AD truck 'Chevy-49'
I need to redo the floor in my 54 and replace many of the same parts you did.
Will I have any issues with laying my cab on its back to complete the repairs? I re-enforced the cab with 1"x1" tubing so i don't think it will flex, but I dont want to damage the sheet metal on the back of the cab. Thoughts? Thanks, |

It was scary.....will not do it again. Next time I will use the tube that I welded on the rear pillar and weld another one higher on the rear pillar. Lift the cab on the lower tube put on a jack stand and turn/spin /lower the cab and put another jack stand under the higher tube. |
