Re: the cheap build thread
Aw, shucks!
If you've cut out ALL the rust, and it's as straight as you can get it, be sure to seal it with an epoxy primer, and spray some proper quality paint, and enough clear to sand out any defects. Do it right. The box on mine is SO bad, it's not worth it. I don't love it enough.

Re: the cheap build thread
Tractor enamel looks pretty enticing, but I'm definitely gonna do some test sprays to see if it's as good as claimed. I would like it to be pretty solid looking after the work put in

Re: the cheap build thread
You want something with a catalyst. If Tractor Enamel comes with it, it should be fine. But anything without a hardener is just a weak paint.

Re: the cheap build thread
I find shooting a base/clear a lot more forgiving as far as application.
A super high gloss will show all your defects though (one of the reasons I did the roller - hides all my mistaks)

Re: the cheap build thread
Its been a while!
Lat time I checked in I was contemplating using tractor paint. I decided to shell out the big bills and get some Summit Racing brand paint, single stage with their 2K clear (compatible with single stage) on top. The initial primer went well. I used all Summit system products and I was impressed with the results The paint went on surprisingly well and turned out pretty nicely, in my opinion |

Re: the cheap build thread
After that, things got even more complicated. First, I put a rebuilt M21 in it that we had sitting around
Most people guess it's a floor shift 3 speed! and definitely not the 4 speed most people expect to see in one of these trucks. But, it shifts like butter and there's nothing like rowing through some gears I also ended up putting in a ford 9 inch with upgraded axles as I sold my rear end |

Re: the cheap build thread
After that was done, I went on Hot Rod Power Tour
I got to have a blast with some great friends and my dad, I recommend going on Power Tour to anyone remotely interested in cars or road trips. Its truly an amazing time. Eventually, after the Power Tour trip i ended up building a motor from things I had sitting around It's a pretty mild setup. Fully forged bottom end. Isky supercam, upgraded springs, rebuilt and ported heads, double roller timing chain, blueprinted oil pump, various old school mods for oiling, chap style pan, and about 9.8 to 1 compression. It's a pretty mean machine, even still being Q-Jet equipped |
