Had the entire truck's sheet metal taken down to bare steel after hydroblasting...many sins were hiding! This truck will be patina'd but wanted to know the foundation was solid. Had the major dings/dents removed but keeping little scuffs and dings to make the patina more 'authentic'... base coat should be laid next week or so.

Wrapping up (the many) chassis mods and should be able to post the chassis pics soon.

The start of the long bodywork/painting process:

Take sheet metal down to bare steel, fix all cancer and questionable areas but keep any dents, creases and dings. Paint 4 colors as a 'base' and cut down to get background feel. Then use translucent browns to soften and tie in all metal. Finally, lay down a few coats of a matte clear to seal it up.

Interior will be done in a fawn type shade without any distressing... basically, the interior will look like it is a preserved time capsule.

We'll see how it pans out over the next few months.

Chassis will be a complete Pro Touring type set-up.

Only a few hours done of many more to come...



Also... looking for a nice non-metallic fawn if anyone has any ideas?

Nice progress on a beautiful truck! 1st time I've seen it, but I'll be checking in from now on.

Decided to go with a "Gentleman's Pro Touring" type suspension/set-up. Want a truck that handles well and is predictable... something to get in and just drive. Still need to final mount the Boyd fuel tank (and CAD a skidplate), make a few brackets for the frame stiffner/trans mount and do a final weld-out after mock up. Will be taking chassis to powder at end of next week.

Pic doesn't look like much but a lot has gotten to this point...

Thanks! It's just a hodge podge of different vendors. Unfortunately, no one vendor makes a 'modular' system that can be built upon for what I am after. Ended up taking bits and pieces from vendors and fabricating pieces to make everything play nice together. Either a single vendor doesn't offer a 'complete' system or (more likely) they quote crazy ship times that make waiting not practical. Never built a 60-66 Chevy truck before... it's been an eye opener.

I use a Mittler Brothers 36" bead roller. It is a very nice roller and decided to pick one up after seeing it at the last SEMA show. I spoke with Jamey Jordan while there and picked up a couple his DVD's that easily explains the process. The bead roller is nice but the key is in the dies.

I use a steel tipping die to 'score' in the design. Then I alternate between a delrin 45 degree and delrin radius die. With the delrin dies, you can make multiple small passes without leaving traces of where you were before. The key is to SLOWLY burn in the design to prevent warpage or puckering of the material. When working in aluminum, I will use the delrin dies... and steel dies when rolling steel.

It looks difficult and complex... but once you know the sequence, it is actually pretty simple... as long as you go slow.



This better shows the process of 'pulling' the beads out of the score line... you can see the difference that multiple passes do in relation to pic posted above...this piece is about 2 feet tall.



This is how it looks when it gets ready to be scored... I just use reference lines to make an initial pass to define the part.

I'd like to try my hand at some artistic bead rolling, but I don't know when I would find the time.

I have been watching a guy by the name of Adam Deuling over on Pirate4x4 for a little while now. He has been doing well enough that Jamey Jordan himself contacted him. I think your work is every bit as good.

Quick CAD project, frame stiffner with integrated transmission mount. Doing a final weld and making sure all little tabs are in place (bulkhead fitting tabs, etc)...then off to powdercoat.

Nice work. I would like to see more pictures of the chassis once all the welding is done before it goes off to powder coat!

Gotcha... I'll post a few before it heads out for powder.

4l60e adjustable mount, has same adjustment range of the Dirty Dingo engine mounts so the entire engine/trans can move same distance. Now I can measure and order the driveshaft.

This week is the 1year anniversary that I started on this project.... would like to be done and drive to SEMA 2017 (Famous Last Words).

Finished the final mock-up/mods on the chassis - I'll hold my opinions on some 'vendors' for these trucks... now it can be torn down for final welding then off to powdercoat. That said, would have been much further ahead if I just did all the CAD and plasma/lasered everything out myself... oh well...

We have a bucket of 'mock-up' bolts that we use so disregard bolt size/lengths in pictures. Next set of pictures will be of the powdercoated chassis and everything bolted up nice and purdy!

track bar mounting bracket is cool, I got everything cut an about ready to do the same
