Re: 69 crew duramax build
I might be interested in some of the parts from the donor truck; power window and door locks door, front door panels, outside mirrors, front and rear speakers (if not blown)

Re: 69 crew duramax build
Mind if i ask? how difficilt is it to pay what i would concider some pretty big bucks for take a perfectly good newer chevy truck and tear it apart to use the chassis as a donor? I love the whole idea but its such a large chunk of money.. I'd absolutly want an experianced builder doing it if it was me.. I love this build!

Re: 69 crew duramax build
I know it is a lot of money but I really prefer to drive a diesel. And if I do ever sell it I think the extra cost will be recouped at that time. I bought the donor reasonably priced and it doesn't look like I will have a lot of trouble parting it out. So some cost will be offset immediately.

Re: 69 crew duramax build
Having what you want and an emmission free diesel engine are well worth the price compared to a $65k new truck that drops $10k the first year and nearly $5k the next etc. Nice to see the donor being torn down. This is going to be a very nice rig!

I picked this donor specifically for the limited emissions and tuning options

Re: 69 crew duramax build
I've always wanted to drop a classic body on a fully function late model chassis. Having a diesel powered truck with full ABS that looks like a classic C-10, that's just too cool.
Very cool build. I'll be following along for sure. |

Re: 69 crew duramax build
How does everyone feel about a wood floor longhorn 8.5' bed? It will actually be very close to the correct length to fit 06 frame I think.

Re: 69 crew duramax build
I say go for it. You can put a steel floor in the Longhorn bed with some work. You have to cut the steel floor, add 6" and move 2 floor supports.

Re: 69 crew duramax build
Body bolts are all out of cab. Almost ready to pull body! Also mailed off the harness to get it re-worked and tuned. So far we have not had to break hydroboost or engine cooling system connections

Re: 69 crew duramax build
That's a great start and it looks like it's going to be an awesome truck when you're done. It's one of those projects we all want to do but seem to steer away from it when we really think about everything involved. Keep up the steam and you'll have it done before you know it.

Harness will be done around the first of the year. So hopefully I can have this thing pretty close body wise to hook up harness and test drive!

Re: 69 crew duramax build
I'm really digging this now! I've been wanting to build a Longhorn crew cab for a while.

Re: 69 crew duramax build
is the donor an LB7 or LLY duramax? ihave a 68 c20 and 03 2500HD. never thought of combining them together! looks like youll have issues with bed and cab height matching up because of the huge frame kick in newer models
