Over the years I've learned some trucks just got the magic combo of tolerances from the factory to get great mileage and I finally found one.

Tune tune tune, then tune some more. There are tricks and sweet spots for every combo. I've never had something I couldn't get respectable mileage from when you consider the total package.

All of us that are hard core aren't completely stuck on mileage, but I also like to get what a combo has to offer for the simple reason that I don't let gas prices dictate what I have to drive, so I make what I have respectable in the mileage department so I can continue to enjoy them.

My opinion, anything that gets 14mpg or better is good enough and pretty much what I've driven all my life. So when I find a combo that gets 20 mpg I feel like I'm in a prius

So, Im not hardcore because Im concerned about fuel mileage? Care to explain that? I think owning and driving a 31yr old vehicle as your only vehicle would be considered "hardcore" by many. Not that I care to be considered hardcore but that felt like a jab of sorts. Like I shouldnt care what the mileage is. Im not rich and my pockets arent as deep as others so I need to make my gas stretch.

No, hardcore because we choose to drive classic vehicles rather than cookie cutter stuff, no matter what the gas prices or mileage is. Because of that I also tune and tweak to get what the vehicle has to offer.

Yeah. My DD F150 gets 20-22 on the interstate, and K10 gets 14. That doesn't reign in my smiles while driving the old relic though
