Re: Old Blue

Thanks TKCR,
she is correct. Aluminum peel and seal.
https://www.lowes.com/search?searchT...+peel+and+seal

used it on two trucks so far and haven't had any smell issues with Florida or Mississippi heat.

Re: Old Blue

Fantastic! Spent so much on Dynamat on just two vehicles alone, and I have three more to do.

Any way, truck looks fantastic!

Re: Old Blue

After putting the pass. door together and finished up, i noticed the window didn't track well and the run channel was deteriorated so tore everything back apart to get it right. replaced window motor, inner and outer felts and the run channel. Then decided to clean up the vent window. rubber looked good but there was some corrosion where the run channel sits so i corrected all of that. Still haven't put it all back together but the window now tracks nicely up and down.

In my frustration with all of this, I didn't take any pictures....LOL

That blew most of my Sunday which was the only day I was able to work on the truck.

I have had plenty of days like that!! Remember the barn door I was telling you about, all the way back when you were here, picking up your seat & hood? Well this weekend, I finally got it done. That was one of the most frustrating projects I have ever done. I could only work on it in small stages because I was so frustrated with it. I'll text you some pics later.

Re: Old Blue

How about a comment on interior noise level since the sound abatement installation? My 1985 sounds like a tin drum.

Old glue? If you mean around windsheild, it only had a small amount around the corners. Goof off and a razor blade. Then I sprayed the pinch weld areas with rust inhibitor which dries a flat black.

Re: Old Blue

Well,
today was only supposed to be a few hours but it actually took almost all day. Don't feel like I got much done but here it is. Installed new AC vents and stainless trim on the dash then made my first attempt at installing the dash itself. The clips don't seem to really lock anything in place but it does keep the dash from lifting. I figure that and the pressure from the screws on the bottom edge (pass side) and the guage bezel will keep things in place. Wish I could say it fit like factory but what every does? Anyways, got that installed along with all the interior moldings. I removed my dome light since the wires seemed to rub on the sharp sheet metal edges so I took some small rubber tubing, slit it down the middle and lined the edges of the sheet metal and it worked out great. I also finished up the rear wall carpet. Here are pics of the progress on Ol' Blue.

It seems you have patience and drive. Your truck reflects it. Good job.

There is a thread on this forum and i followed it exactly except i added some wires and mounted my remotely. You just cut a couple of wires and add in an aux jack from radio shack.

Re: Old Blue

Super clean truck. I like following your attention to detail. I also like your real world approach... I want this, but have this... I can't buy what I want right now... so I modified what I have. That is exactly right for me and my approach to working on these trucks. No disrespect for the guys that buy the best and have the over-the-top builds. But I don't the time, money, or bandwidth to do it that way. The affordable way is part of what keeps it fun for me.

Thanks for your service. One of my best friends is 30 years and counting in the Marine Corps and is one of the people I respect the most.

Re: Old Blue

Thanks! It is a real struggle for me because sometimes I would like to replace some parts with new but then reality sets in...gotta buy groceries or the kids need something....so you gotta get creative. Besides, I enjoy spending time with a bench grinder and stripping wheel and repainting screws, nuts and bolts. Garage therapy is cheaper than seeing the wizard!

Re: Old Blue

Finished up the interior this past weekend. Just need to mount the steering wheel and then get some floor mats.

I can't thank member TKCR enough for the great job she did on my seat. I basically built the interior around this great looking seat!!!

I used some 3m double sided clear tape to secure the edge of the black carpet I used on the back wall just where it starts to curve up. I think it turned out good and the acoustics inside with my ipod and all the speakers sounds good for my old ears.

Re: Old Blue

Old Blue is looking great. You are doing an excellent job on it. I will also be following along. I just started another (78) project and love to see others (especially other Marines) progress. Kinda inspires me.

P.S. Love your sig. So true. I heard someone say "former Marine" once. I corrected him saying "there is no such thing".
We're just not on active duty at the moment.

Unhappy Re: Old Blue

I just noticed your other vehicles, one being named "Betty"

I have a 67 Nova drag car project (stalled and for sale) that's name "Ugly Betty".
