Also we are thinking of using some 90s model bucket seats as pictured. Any one use these with keeping the gas tank behind the seat? enough room to not be too close to the steering wheel? Don't want to move the gas tank if I don't have to.

Good news. The engine is a 400 sbc! see the gm casting on the back of the block and the listing of casting codes. Big E's 62 was saying the low HP is due to it being a smog engine. We have some double hump heads and 4 barrel aluminum intake with a holly carb we can throw on top of it. That should help. Plus not having all that smog stuff on it.

Next update, the truck had a bunch of parts in the cab (5 lug disk brakes, power brake booster, power steering pump etc). Big E and I noticed the rear end had been changed. Well, he popped the back hub caps off yesterday and the PO already converted to 5 lug rear end. Looks like we will be upgrading the front!

Good progress this weekend. I was able to get the cab cleaned out, old rusted passenger fender off and the "custom" radio plate above the windshield down.

GREAT NEWS, I took off the plate covering the radio holes.....UNCUT!!!

The last picture is all the parts takin out of the cab: includes AC unit and powering steering and disk brakes conversion stuff.

He is right! We pulled the plastic floor mats up and were excited to see how great the floor looked. We have one spot where the converted the tranny from manual to automatic, so we have that hole to better repair. Not a bad fix though.

Excited for a longer weekend coming up. Hoping to make some progress on the 62. I would like to get the rest of the front clip off so we can get the top part of the engine off. Need to pick up the double hump heads my papa is giving us and take them to get rebuilt. Motivating to write it all out sometime.

Not too much to update on the 62. I was able to flip a truck and sell some more parts the past few weeks. I also worked on getting my car hauler trailer going this last weekend. Hoping to have the rest of it finished this weekend.

Story time: So when I was 12 or 13 years old, there was an old man that lived behind my family that had a bunch of 58/59 apache trucks. I used to go over there and talk trucks with him. Back then, he told me he would sell me a 59 4x4 short stepside for 1,500 bucks...should have bought it... Fast forward 12 years, I went by his place a couple days ago. He has started getting rid of some of his trucks. Told him about my 81 I got from our other neighbor and how I still have it and the 62 we are building for Big E. After 1.5 hours chatting in the 99 degree heat, we settled on a truck. He agreed to sell me a 1959 Apache Short Fleetside with a spare big window cab. He told me if I needed other parts to just come by.

Oh and the best part....I only paid $300.

I am excited to get it home and start. It has a great green patina!

Small update:

In addition to selling some more parts, I was able to get the car hauler undercoated, new wires and lights ran, and new treated wood. I am planning to paint the trailer this weekend and get the trailer brakes going so I can get it inspected and go pick up another donor truck on Sunday.

I am hoping soon I have enough money saved up to get the double hump heads rebuilt so we can get that 400 purring again!

FYI, make sure you get steam holes drilled into the double hump heads and make sure you use the 400 head gaskets or that 400 will run hot very quick and all your hard work will be quickly destroyed! Been there.

Yep! Big E's 62 used to have a 400 sbc and he has said the same thing. Thanks for the reminder.

Well, I did it again...picked up a 1961 C10 sitting on a 65 frame with some wide steelies and a 1968 327 engine and a clean title. Decent truck with some rust. But it is all there minus the windshield. Not bad at all for the price I paid for it.

It came if lots of extra parts too! Guy was just trying to get rid of it. Excited to get this one gone to keep funding that engine rebuild.

I am thinking I will keep the 327 for a future project. Also, came with some sweet buckets that we can use for Big E's 62.

Yeah the 61 is nice. Unfortunately, I will not be building this one. I will use the bucket seats, rear end, wheels, and doors possibly.

Well, Big E decided he wants to stick to the 6 lug (which is on front, 5 lug on the back). I sold the bed and hood off the 61. So, the plan is now to pull the 6 lug rear end (which I believe is from a 70s truck) and put it under the 62. We will have to re-weld the brackets as the 61 trailing arms were narrowed for bigger tires.

Well, I had a productive weekend. I was able to start getting ready for the swap meet coming up in Decatur. Tore the grill and fenders off of Big E's 62 that will be selling. Also, added some 6 lug 10 inch wide steelies that came with my 61 I purchased a couple weeks back.

The front end for the 61 was dismantled along with the cluster and column removed. Spent some time sorting through all the parts.

Hoping this weekend to dismantle some more parts off the trucks and get the trailer loaded up and ready for next Thursday.

I have two 6 lug rear ends, trying to figure out which one we should go with. One looks bone stock to the 62 and the other may be a posi from the 70s. The posi would require some welding fab. Not a big deal though I guess.

Also, wanting to pull the 400 out of Big E's 62 so I can take the heads and intake to sell. Remember I picked up a 68 chevelle 327 with double hump heads. I am going to use those heads for the 400.

Well, i thought i would update everyone that i ended up selling this project about a year ago as my dad lost interest and i needed cash for ring. fast forward....i am married now and my dad has the c10 fever. We are looking for a solid 1960-62 short bed. Let us know what you got. We are in DFW.
