Re: '68 C30 Cummins swap
P.S. Don't knock me for the red accents that's how the dodge came.

Re: '68 C30 Cummins swap
Looks good, have you sorted out any of the clutch/transmission stuff yet?

Re: '68 C30 Cummins swap
Not yet, that's for tomorrow. I saved a piece of the clutch pedal and the piece that holds the slave to the firewall, I also want to get the throttle squared away.

Re: '68 C30 Cummins swap
For the throttle I used a dodge pedal and cable assembly than with some tinkering was able to use the chevy plastic pedal on the dodge bracket assembly to make it look original (the foot portion of the dodge pedal is much smaller)

Re: '68 C30 Cummins swap
I have the dodge pedal assembly that I plan to use with a special pedal. I took anything from the dodge that was different from the GM stuff just in case....

Re: '68 C30 Cummins swap
How tall is your fan blade? It looks to be smaller than mine and I'd like one that would be lower than the radiator, I read somewhere that the 6.2 Detroit blade will works too.

Re: '68 C30 Cummins swap
I have been driving my truck around unintentionally doing 1 wheeled burnouts all over town.
Not sure what you are using for a rear end but try and source a limited slip and a 3.55 gear set. I am using the factory C20 dana 60 open diff with 4.10's and it drives significantly worse than the dually it came out of with those gears. |

Re: '68 C30 Cummins swap
I have the Dana 70 from the dodge that has 3:54's ? In it, when I drove the dodge around it was pretty nice thru the gears. The Eaton is still under the truck but isn't wide enough to clear the bed, I've been procrastinating because I'm not looking forward to cutting off the spring perches.

Re: '68 C30 Cummins swap
Well it's either been too hot or I've been too busy for the truck. Pulled the Eaton HO72 out and mocked up the Dana 70. Perches should be in by Tuesday so I'll have to wait to get it bolted in.
One problem I have is the wheel isn't centered in the opening and I'm unable to start the steel floor conversion until it's perfect.

Re: '68 C30 Cummins swap
I had to move my perches back but at that time I switched over to 4wd hangers because they were taller than the 2wd ones.

Re: '68 C30 Cummins swap
I was able to get the manual master out and start fitting the slave cylinder mounting bracket to the pedal assembly. I also did a test fit of the power brakes to see how the intake piping will need to be modified.

Re: '68 C30 Cummins swap
Looking good. You will have to make a new rod. I could probably measure mine to save you the hassle so your clutch actuation works right the first time.

Re: '68 C30 Cummins swap
Did some digging and found this on a dodge forum:
The MINIMUM travel of the slave cylinder push rod needed to actuate the clutch properly is 23-24 MM.

Re: '68 C30 Cummins swap
By the time I get home from work there's roughly an hour of daylight left to work on it so it's been slow going.
During the past couple weeks I was able to get it wired, hook up the power steering hoses, and finish the piping. I used an old 6637 for mock up by cutting down the dodge intake tube and a piece of 4" exhaust pipe. The intercooler piping is in stock form on the passenger side and modified to clear the booster on the driver.
