Re: Another one coming back,1965 C10
Juts a quick update, done some small jobs on the truck in preparation for the test, changed over headlights and fitted a screen washer.Turns out pre 66 I can leave the red rear flashers (cheers Paul Y). It seems the previous owner really took care of the truck mechanically, everything seems fresh, belts, hoses etc and he had already upgraded the alternator and fitted a relay for halogen lights, which saved me some time.
So with all that done....... |

Re: Another one coming back,1965 C10
.....we have a PASS! Excellent!
Only a couple of advisories, Slight exhaust blow - already have thrush glass packs to replace old mufflers. Front right outer tie rod worn - already ordered a new one this morning! So with that done it's just waiting for the paperwork in order to register it! Stopped for a pint on the way home to celebrate! |

Nice one Danny!
Good to see Mutley out and about. Still have the wheel nuts here if you need them. P.

Re: Another one coming back,1965 C10
That would be great Paul, had to cobble together some random ones for the MOT,going to get the wheels painted so would be nice to put on some half decent nuts.
Next job, take out the seat, remove the rubber and paint the floor with some por 15 bed liner, there's no holes so far,but a bit of surface rust, so best treat it ASAP. And here's another picture..... It definitely dominates the small country roads! |

Re: Another one coming back,1965 C10
Hey Danny !!
Really pleased for you. It just gets better and better. Was going to ask, was the other tie rod end good? More work but possibly worth doing both if no 2 looks future suspect.

Re: Another one coming back,1965 C10
Glad to hear you made it thru the inspection.
I have always done tie rods in pairs myself as Rian mentions above.

Re: Another one coming back,1965 C10
Cheers guys, the problem with the rod end was the rubber was damaged, so for now I'll just replace one to get me by, then when I go back to Seattle in August I'll grab another one to replace the other side, also thinking about picking up some lowering items, nothing too drastic maybe a couple of inches or so.
Done a couple of things over the last few day, was out in the garage for a couple of hours tonight to get some fresh paint on the wheels. Got some mixed up, went slightly bluer than the original green, as I'll be touching up the "patina" in the original green ( which seems to be RAL6033). I didn't want it to look too green. So a rub down with scotch pads, wet and dry, panel wipe , primer and top coat and the end result is pretty nice! Here's a few pics.. |

Re: Another one coming back,1965 C10
Wayne,
There was a set of lowering springs on rods n sods last week. Not a massive drop, think they were 2 and 4". About £100 from memory. But, as my memory has been compromised by years of self abuse I could have got that completely wrong. Mutley looks good on his shiney new wheels. Do you still need the wheel nuts? P.

Cheers for the heads up Paul! And thanks for getting the details whilst I was out and about! I've made contact so we will see what happens, your right Grizz, could be a nice quick/cheap/easy lowering job!
I'll keep you posted! |

Re: Another one coming back,1965 C10
And the "farm bumper" is gone! Wasn't really sure what this would look like, but I really like it, makes the rear curves a lot more noticeable. Very happy with it!

Picked this up last time I was over, nice!
I'm going to cut the "wings" off the tow bar and add side braces further under. |

That is very cool. Bumper was a functional tool, for a working truck, not for your use. They look,a lot better without or with something a bit more subtle.

Re: Another one coming back,1965 C10
I'll just have to be carefull when I back up!
I've found a whole box of stuff in the cab, including a police issue batten, police torch, police paperwork from various arrests back in the day.....oh and a very large knife! The previous owner was a police officer in Fresno! |

Elwood Blues: It's got a cop motor, a four hundred and forty cubic inch plant. It's got cop tires, cop suspensions, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters, so it'll run good on regular gas. What do you say? Is it the new Bluesmobile or what? Truck looks much better without the heavy duty bumper.

Re: Another one coming back,1965 C10
So the customs paperwork finally arrived today so I can register it, I had to get then engine number for the forms, and surprise, it's not the original 327, which i suppose is to be expected, but as far as I can tell from the number it's a 350 out of a 78 truck....

Re: Another one coming back,1965 C10
So she's on the road and up and running, enjoying the driving very much! Takes a bit of getting used to! I think a bit of steering box adjustment is on the cards, took the missus out for a spin, she thought it was pretty awesome!
Then broke the news about my latest purchase.......... |

Re: Another one coming back,1965 C10
She is a '58 Apache, a bit of a junkyard dog at the moment, but the guy is going to find a 350 and put it in for me,hooked up to a 4 speed. I'm going to be heading out to Seattle for a while and I wanted a bit of a project/driver to keep me busy while I'm there, then she will come home and join the '65! Going to need a bigger garage......
