thank you sir. It seems there is only one source and they are all crappy. I spent an hour straightening the trim and polishing it out on the set I found.

They're not as good as OEM, but good enough for the chicks in my neck of the woods.

Re: 85 C10 Project "Walking Horse"

Finally in the final stage of this project. It's been 2 stage buffed, engine compartment cleaned, and bed floor detailed. Just a few more small things this week, and its heading to ebay next weekend.

Re: 85 C10 Project "Walking Horse"

Small project for the day, floor mats. The original floor mats were in perfect condition with the exception of they were faded. So I started with cleaning them 3 times with soap & water, sprayed them with 3 coats of adhesion promoter, and finally 3 coats of burgundy vinyl dye. Not a perfect match to OEM color, but a great way to make old mats look new again. I've done this on several trucks and have found it to be a good way to restore your original mats.

I need to do this. Have you kept any of the trucks long enough to make sure the paint doesn't start coming off on your shoes?

Re: 85 C10 Project "Walking Horse"

No sir I haven't. It's probably not a good solution for a daily driver, but for a weekend cruiser it should hold up fairly well. I would suggest getting a cheap set for everyday duty and just use the dyed ones for shows.

Would you mind sharing what brand tires you chose? I am looking at the same set up. Sorry for all the questions.

Re: 85 C10 Project "Walking Horse"

The tires are Desert hawk 245/40/20 & 275/45/20. They have matching side walls and thread which is extremely hard to find in those sizes. If only go 4/6 drop, then a 245/45/20 is a good fit.

It will eventually wear off, but it does take a while. I have that exact same set that was dyed in my 77 Cheyenne. They are starting to show some color through, but its lasted a long time.
A better reason to get a spare set is those mats are very hard to find so dont wear them out.

Re: 85 C10 Project "Walking Horse"

Yes they have good price on them and quick shipping. They're about the only brand I can get in that particular tire size with matching side wall and tread. I've absolutely zero problems with balancing or ride quality.

Re: 85 C10 Project "Walking Horse"

I am having issues with rubbing on the front and from what I am hearing it is due to a weak McGaughys front springs. They say the fix is to order a 3/4 ton spring and cut a coil and reinstall the bump stops. I am not too concerned about matching sidewall I just want to get this rubbing stopped.
