Re: 72 Super Roadtrip-Coast to Coast
UUh... I hate to say this, but if you are doing a coast to coast you need to hang a u-turn and head out to Cape Hatteras!
I don't have a smart phone yet. I'm still smarter than mine. But I know Windows10 on my laptop is more geared toward smart phones than stationary units with all these new features/apps to make life more convenient. I guess your phone is deciding which way is best for your picture. I'm pretty independent, do just fine on my own. I get frustrated when a device decides what's best for me or makes suggestions. I find myself thinking (maybe out loud at times), "Stop helping me!!" I hope you figure it out. My neck hurts...hah hah.

Re: 72 Super Roadtrip-Coast to Coast
Yesterday was a full day. A big thanks to "Tom" the owner of Jack Smiths transmission & Auto service. After oneof the big chain auto shops didn't want to touch the truck, I asked them to send me in the direction of an independent shop. When I got there Tom was just coming into work. I told him were I was coming from and where I was going, a what I thought was wrong with the truck. Within the next 5 minutes he had it up on the rack, diagnosed it was indeed the center support. He would look for the part and order the u-joints too, just in case we needed them. When it was all apart and ready to go back together he noticed where the retaining ring snaps into the yoke the metal was worn and was worried about it holding together for such a long trip. That's when We decided to go visit the Biitmore for the day
We got back about 430 and they were just finishing up. He had found a new yoke and basically rebuilt the driveline ,transmission to differential Also put new upper and lower radiator hoses on and tightened all battery to starter connections Tom , Thank you very much Here is a picture of the wall art in his office. It is very fitting for the start of this trip. It may be hard to see in the shadow but in the lower area of USA it says Coast to Coast |

Re: 72 Super Roadtrip-Coast to Coast
Today we are heading to Maggy Valley to visit "Wheels through time" museum
If you haven't heard of it google it I'm not really into motorcycles to much, but when "What's in the barn" was on velocity it was one of my favorite programs We will then cruise thru the Smokey Mountains to Knoxville If anyone is around Knoxville and can tell me where we can purchase an under rail tool box I would appreciate it. I want to bolt in the box so we can lock our stuff in it instead of always leaving it in the cab Thanks to everyone tuning in, and your comments |

Several of my car guy neighbors travel from central Fl. to attend the Fall shows at Pigeon Forge every year. The shows are this weekend and next. I went several years ago, lot of traffic & a LOT of old cars/trucks. You guys are right in the neighborhood. Didn't study this thread too closely, so if somebody already posted this info ........

Re: 72 Super Roadtrip-Coast to Coast
Made it to Home Depot and bought a tool box. I was looking for a cheap drill to buy in the tool section and this guy said I could borrow his. We pulled over next to him. I pulled out 2 bed bolts, drilled the holes in the box and bolted it back down. We now have lockable stowage out of the weather and safer than leaving everything in the cab. But most importantly, no new holes in the bed!

Another pic of the strip We just pulled up on the lawn in front of a bank, some guys came over to talk trucks. They said you can stay right where you are "nobody will bother you, stay as long as you want" For the next several hours we had talked to about 20-30 people just by standing around. I think I was asked "are you selling it" about 1/2 dozen times I would have stayed and slept in the back of the truck if I could of, Brad however had other plans. Let's get to Knoxville. I've got friends to see So we jumped back in and moved on down the road |

Re: 72 Super Roadtrip-Coast to Coast
Cool trip, i'm in southern middle tn., some beautiful land in this state. Wife and i did route 66 to Santa Monica couple years ago what a fun time. Most of our vacations now are road trips. Hope all goes well assume you'll head toward Nashville next US 70 is a nice trip across this state from up that way. Parallels I-40 for a long way. I usually take the old routes, hints the quote in my signature.

We are going to go north at this point. Tomorrow we are heading up to Bristol motor speedway. It's the battle at Bristol. University of Tennessee takes on Viginia tech in football. That should be fun. Tailgate all day and watch football at night

Re: 72 Super Roadtrip-Coast to Coast
Wheels through time museum is so cool. Check it out on the web. One of the guys "Andy" came up to B and I and asked us if we wanted to see the rarest bike in the world. Told us a great story of this 1916 Traub. It was found behind a bricked in wall of a remodeled home I believe in Illinois in 1967 when the new owner was doing his remodel at the time. It was in original condition covered with dust and believed to be hidden for more than 50 years in that house.
He told us several more stories about other bikes. And I told him several stories about 72 Chevy's We bs'd for more than an hour Thanks for the time Andy I hope you were able to find your way to this blog |
