Is that wheel and tire the diameter you are going to run? If the diameter is going to be any larger, it will look different in the wheel well. In post #25, the left side picture looks more centered than the right too. On another topic--I was wondering if the bed sides are going to go on the outsides of the IRS spring pockets. The straight-on rear view in an earlier post looks like its wide, and close to the tire. Last edited by jkeating1; 02-12-2017 at 09:39 PM. |

Re: 54 3600 lincoln aviator
Oh I forgot to mention that the aviator was hit in the front passenger side. I have a friend that can straighten the frame. So hopefully it will pull out enough to match the drivers side.
As for the wheels and tires the diameter is what I plan on keeping whether or not I keep the wheels. 24-26" s is about what looks best to me considering all 4 must be the same diameter for the awd. I believe my 51 has a 25" diameter. So hopefully they will clear, the fenders will come up a hair when I get support under the front. They are free hanging right now. The bed believe it or not falls right inside the tires just barely. I'd say 1" on both sides. It will still be tight between IRS, if it hits a little I could always notch it a little. I will include a close up pick of the IRS. Once I get the radiator support figured out I will tackle the bed. I am dying to see the running boards on to see how far off the ground it's going to be. I may mock them up soon just to see. Thanks for the observations and concerns! I hope to be back on this full time soon.

Re: 54 3600 lincoln aviator
YES! Thank you, I've had so many people say ford in a Chevy? When I know I've seen several mustangs with a ls. It's a cheviator people. Get over it. When I started it. that never crossed my mind. I simply found a chassis I think is better then a s10 and ran with it. Hopefully in another week I'll be back on it full time.

Re: 54 3600 lincoln aviator
I have never liked the S10 swaps. All you're really gaining is the IFS. The 3100 and 3600 frames are much stronger than the S10 will ever be. By the time you chop, weld, modify for the S10 frame, might swell bought an aftermarket IFS and kept the original frame.
I originally was thinking of doing a Trailblazer chassis swap. The big problem with swapping into an AD truck is the width. Not to mention the TB frame has a huge drop in the center. I like what you're doing much more than any chassis swap I've seen. I've kind of changed course on my build. For what I want, the MII is a better option. Next time someone says anything about the Ford power plant, ask them how many 9" rears and MII front ends are under Chevy's. Chris. |

Re: 54 3600 lincoln aviator
This is a very, very cool build.
I'm not a huge van of the Ford V8s (except maybe the 5.2 liter in the new GT350s, or the 6.2 Boss motor) but 300 horsepower should be plenty. That chassis is a great choice, very very solid and will handle really well. Is the ABS going to stay intact? You mentioned "modules"

Re: 54 3600 lincoln aviator
it doesnt matter to me what power train is in what body, I am an equal opportunity offender! when I did the 65 on S10 I was actually looking for a 67-72 ford shortbed to put on a toyota tacoma frame firewall and floorpan. that would have started some fistfights, although the 4 cylinder 65 didnt make a lot of friends.
looking great! cant wait to see it running and driving! Love working with modern electronics that just plug in and WORK together.

Re: 54 3600 lincoln aviator
Well I know it’s been a long time since my last post. My shop caught on fire and burned both of my classics, along with everything I own. It’s better sweet coming back to this sight. It’s time to start another. I have a few to start but I’m thinking I want a cameo. Everyone here has always been wonderful. I love this site!

Re: 54 3600 lincoln aviator
At auction I purchased a 1950s portable swap cooler in mint condition for 5 bucks. It had a long cord with just 2 wires with no cord cap. Me being the electrician, I wired up a 110 male to the end of it and plugged it in. If ran crazy fast for 4 seconds and started smoking. So I unplugged it, blew the smoke away and stayed with it another full minute. (I have exact times thanks to Cctv). Went to the house to use the restroom and my Nieghbor called asking what I was cooking. Then explosions and I immediately knew. Portable meaning 12volt. So I hit that 12v fan motor with 110 and had to be glowing red. Being a swap cooler it originally had some type of paper filter and being from the 50s. That paper had to be great Firewood. I didn’t fill with water before testing. On top of that it was right next to my lift and auto paint fluids etc. so no worries about your shop catching on fire unless you are an idiot like me. Of course insurance didn’t cover a fraction of what I had. I’ll build again one day hopefully.

Friend
Two things, first, that out come is a back breaker. My heart goes out to ya. Second' is character. which you have, for you to share and own your mistake. To try to help someone else froming having this happen to them. No question that all of us have done stuff just like that, only your price tag is off the charts. Keep on keepin on nutz
