Re: engine upgrade time...

Could be an exhaust leak at header ? Hopefully guy didn't get on gas really hard while he drove It and screwed something up . Wonder what the engine break in protocol is for that motor ?

Oh well . It's never smooth and easy when u want something really bad .

Re: engine upgrade time...

Dang... Hang in there...

You will benefit from having it at the dealer in this case. GM Tech probably does know better than to kill the engine on break in so it's likely something simple or maybe an exhaust leak as mentioned.

You can always open the cutouts and not hear anything but the open headers!!!

Re: engine upgrade time...

today GM Performance Parts decided that after trying everything else, they are now sending us another new crate motor... it should be here tomorrow. I hate that we have to take it all back out and redo it again though... but its gotta be right!!

SO hopefully in the next week we will have this new motor sitting in the truck and running good! I will let yall know when we do...

Re: engine upgrade time...

Waiting is always the hard part. Good thing the dealer is installing it as they cannot say it was installed incorrectly and get out of the warranty claim.
I am curious just what went wrong with it. Maybe they will tear it down to investigate it. One thing about it is that truck will be real fun soon. Like a whole different truck.

Re: engine upgrade time...

yeah I'm glad that I did have it done there... they been REAL good to work with me on this and have really fought to get GM to make this good! Butch thinks its a CAM bearing but without opening it up he's not sure. it definitely wasn't lifters...

this has been the first big block vehicle I've ever had. the 396 that was in it was OK on power but I cant wait to see what this motor does in this truck!!

Re: engine upgrade time...

it had 3.73 gears... I went with 3.42. not much difference in gearing but I got them with the posi and all new bearings as cheap as I could just get the eaton posi. so I went ahead and did it all while we were in it.

not sure what I'm going to do with the 396 yet....
