Re: 1972 Medium Olive SWB Driver Build-“Chester”
Thanks guys. I’ve been enjoying driving it all weekend. I keep going back and forth on the stance. I have decided to move forward on converting to power steering. I kind of like the manual brakes but cannot stand trying to park this truck. Plus there’s so much play in the steering that something needs to be done.
On a side note I drove it to a neighborhood gathering a buddy of mine hosted over the weekend. I kept getting compliments but got more “when you going to paint it?” and types of clear coat I need to use discussions than I could stand.

Re: 1972 Medium Olive SWB Driver Build-“Chester”
I’ve been going for the last 4 years and I had to buy this truck to have one in the show. My LS swap in my ‘67 got a little carried away. It’s definitely a more fun show with a truck there.
Today I got some small stuff crossed off the list. Greased my speedo cable and hooked up, fixed turn signals, installed new license plate light, hooked up cigarette lighter and prepped new antenna delete cowl panel for install. Pretty good day.

Re: 1972 Medium Olive SWB Driver Build-“Chester”
Out in the garage tinkering tonight. Gave it a CLR bath, regular bath and a coat of cleaner wax.
Overall been driving it 2-3 days a week.

Re: 1972 Medium Olive SWB Driver Build-“Chester”
Finally got my carpet installed. Huge improvement. I also painted the passenger inside door and installed a new armrest pad. Other than visors, dome light, and getting the heater/defrost controls to work, the interior is done!

Re: 1972 Medium Olive SWB Driver Build-“Chester”
Had to get my haircut this evening so I took Chester. Plus my barber has been dying to see the truck. It was such a nice night out I took the long way home through the country. It’s amazing how much nicer it is to drive with the new carpet. Plus the stereo sounds a lot better.

Re: 1972 Medium Olive SWB Driver Build-“Chester”
Thanks guys!
Spent last week in Florida working on a project, flew in at 9:00pm Saturday and was at the Eville Shindig by 10:00 the next morning. It was hot but still a pretty good time. While not a show quality truck, I still got more compliments and pics taken than I expected. Afterwards Jen and I took the truck to dinner and a nice little cruise afterwards. Next on the list is getting the oil pressure gauge to work and hook up the heat/defroster controls since it'll start getting cooler soon. Pic I found one of the photographers took. I thought it turned out great.

The problem I’m finding with 2 trucks is only one budget to fund them. I keep trying to gear up on the ‘67 but keeping finding little stuff for the ‘72. First world problems I guess. When I got home tonight I decided to install a new dome light. Still have to hook up the wiring. I also installed some Precision Push-on door weatherstripping. Overall the fit and finish is great. I had a little trouble with the driver’s door due to the kick panel speaker panel and all the wiring. But it wasn’t too bad. A small rubber mallet helped with the install...and potential frustrations. Tonight is a nice night so took the truck to the store to get something to throw on the grill. I was amazed at how much more quiet the truck drove with the new weatherstripping. Well worth the $50 investment.

Re: 1972 Medium Olive SWB Driver Build-“Chester”
Not much progress other than driving every chance I get. Since the new carb/intake I haven’t gone a week without driving it at least once. No problems to date.
Oh wait...that last statement isn’t quite true. Decided to drive the truck to work today. Started up fine and other than the choke kept coming back on it drove great. Stopped by the convenience store by work to get breakfast. Saw the old men that are there every morning for coffee and gossip looking as I pulled up. Shut the truck off, went in and got breakfast and headed back to the truck. Got in, turned the key, and nothing. Truck wouldn’t even turn over. Went back in and asked the “men’s club” if anyone had jumper cables. All said no but one guy reluctantly said he did. Head out the door and he said “I’m in the white Chevy pickup”. I responded that I’m in the old green Chevy. He immediately purcked up and starting talking. He was now more interested in helping. A quick jump and the truck fired right up. In the mean time he tried selling me a motor for Chester...a 421 stroked sbc. Asked if it was streetable and he replied “nope!” I passed. Drove to the office, pulled the battery, drove down the road to the local mom and pop battery/alternator store and walked out with a new Interstate battery. Totally wasn’t planning spending that much money today. Put the battery in and now all I have to do is look at the key and the truck starts. Didn’t realize how bad the battery was. Just blamed it on an old truck. Got home just fine and decided to tackle the dome light wiring finally. That turned into an affair which led to robbing the light switch out of the ‘67. Pretty sure that switch originally came out of my old blue truck. But now I have interior lights. Next I apparently need to look into the choke. No pics for this post.

Re: 1972 Medium Olive SWB Driver Build-“Chester”
Thanks guys. Yeah I'm enjoying driving it. In fact took it to work this morning and noticed the car beside me driving strange. Look over and he's video taping me driving down the road. Totally wasn't expecting that.
Fixed the choke issue by adjusting it last weekend. Now once it gets warm it idles just like its suppose to. Tires may be coming sooner rather than later as the fronts are getting pretty bad. But first I need to get the heater working properly.

Re: 1972 Medium Olive SWB Driver Build-“Chester”
Well still driving the truck at least once a week. I’ve come to detest the ride and have decided that’s my winter project. Now I just have to keep my budget in check.
Currently trying to decide on which shocks/springs I going with but it’ll be a 6/4 drop with new shocks, front sway bar and longer rear tracbar. I hope to make of my mind by the end of the week. I’ve got the rest of the year off so I hope to be able to get in the garage and get a few small punch list items crossed off the list. Drove the truck to work yesterday and hit the car wash at lunch.
