Re: "Outkast" 1985 C10 in Hawaii
I'll throw another vote for the grey. I really don't think there is another choice. These trucks just seem to look right with those old aluminum caps on them. I got one for mine and planned on just putting it on when I needed it it but it has stayed.

After removing the rear bump stops, any trouble with the axle hitting the frame?

Re: "Outkast" 1985 C10 in Hawaii
Not at all... I just have a flip kit so, there is about 5" of travel without the bump stops and brackets. I have had some weight in the back too - a couple full kegs and giant coolers of ice and she never hit the rails.

Re: "Outkast" 1985 C10 in Hawaii
Well, I finally got her running smooth, its been a challenge. The PO had the original distributer in the newr crate GM 350 and it didnt have any advance on it, mechanical or vacuum. So, Got a MSD HEI dizzy with vacuum advance and got everything tuned like it should be and bada bing bada boom!
I put my rallys back on too... the US Mags just look plain for an aftermarket wheel on the white... I get more props with the rallys on for some reason.

Re: "Outkast" 1985 C10 in Hawaii
Sorry I have been off the site for a bit. Since I got the truck running good, I have just been driving the hell out of it and working on my Harley so, no real updates on the C10.
I am about to do some changes in the interior so, stay tuned for that. I am keeping it relatively stock but, trying out something I did with my 67 that turned out really well.

Re: "Outkast" 1985 C10 in Hawaii
Thanks all, it turned out pretty good. Now I need to move on to the next task of getting some sounds in the truck. Someone cut the doors out for 6x9s along the way and a hole to get to the window motors. It looks like they used a butter knife to do it... I am going to make a panel to cover the bottom of the door and hopefully match the look. Then move the 6x9s to the back in the corners with a singe 12" KICKER sub.
I need to find a good fitting saddle blanket seat cover. I got one off amazon and it barely covered the seat and the damn string that holds it on all broke because of the slippery pleather seat. Any ideas?

Re: "Outkast" 1985 C10 in Hawaii
Honestly, I wouldn't bother with the 6x9s. Properly tuned front speakers + a sub will be plenty. What do you have for amp and head unit? Let me know what 12" you have and I can help you design a box.
I haven't read any good reviews on saddle blanket seat covers. It sounds like they don't make them like they used to. I'm just going to do a new cover from Acme via rock auto. If you need new seat bottom foam you can get thru ebay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/12548992-MF...0/162357301815

My only concern is the mounting depth of the 12. I dont want to have to move my seat up if I dont have to. By my measurements, I have 4" at the top of the box and 8.5 at the bottom which makes the 5.5" mounting depth of the 12 really close.

Re: "Outkast" 1985 C10 in Hawaii
Those measurements sound about right. Box volume is more critical than depth, and you can adjust that with width. My box was .7 cu/ft not counting the port area. For a sealed 12, it will have to be a bit wider than what I built. What's the model # of your kicker 12?

I am also debated just building a box for one sub and running all the power through it... It will give me room to put crap behind my seat too. What do you think?

Re: "Outkast" 1985 C10 in Hawaii
These?:
https://www.kicker.com/comp-12-4-ohm-subwoofer If you can fit it, I think it will work OK. My box is 7.5" at the bottom with the seat all the way back. I'd go sealed with as big of a box that you can fit. I wouldn't go ported with that sub/amp combo, plus the box size would be huge. You would also need the theile/small parameters from Kicker and run it through a modeling program to calculate volume and port tuning. Kicker doesn't provide enough parameters to run it through a modeling program, so I wasn't able to come up with an "optimum" size. However in the owners manual, it says 1.25-3.5 cu/ft sealed. Here's a calc that I use for box dimensions/volume: http://www.bcae1.com/spboxnew2.htm That's slightly too much amp for those speakers. But, it should be fine if you keep the gain set low. Wired parallel (optimum), it will see a 2 ohm load. Wired in series (8 ohm) I don't think there is enough power. Whether you run one or two comes down to how much space you want to sacrifice. What were you thinking about for changing amps?

I plan to cut the box out Wednesday and start slamming it together to finish it by the weekend. We will see. As for the amp, thats what I have right now and dont want to spend too much on another right now - we will see what I can dig up though. I am still saving to turn my life savings over to ridetech for a bag set up "someday".

Re: "Outkast" 1985 C10 in Hawaii
Here is my Monday status report. Got the box for the 12s build and made some wings for the 6x9s... Its still kind of raw - debating on what I am going to do about covering them but, I got a cool idea... gotta check back to see where this goes.... !

Re: "Outkast" 1985 C10 in Hawaii
This weekend its on like donkey kong! Gonna finish up the box, cover it and start wiring up my amp and massage chair (my 12s). I have installed my Alpine Power Pack too. Then its time for tuning. Alpine has an app for that... pretty cool!!! Hopefully, I will have more pics on Tuesday.
Happy Veterans Day to all who served!!! Freedom aint free!

Re: "Outkast" 1985 C10 in Hawaii
Got it covered. Not sure if I like it yet... I wanted it to look a lil retro to match the truck. That fabric was a nightmare to work with. It frayed and came apart with every cut. It sounds pretty damn good though... the mass volume of speaker helps. Now I need to spend some time and tune it. The Alpine app is pretty complicated and I have a lot to learn to get it where it should be... for now though... she pumps!

Thanks bro... I get good and bad comments about it! I appreciate the support! The comments have swayed to the positive side now that its grey though... plus, I can put my dogs in the back of the truck - that makes it all worth it for me... till I have to clean up the drool all over the truck!

Actually! I've been thinkin bout going with an old school c shell myself for my longer jaunts...and you've encouraged me to go ahead with it...sometimes function beats form and I'm getting a little too long in the tooth to try and look like everyone else...keep doin your thing, Brother!
also...the horse blanket speaker upholstery is starting to grow on me...
