Re: Kel's '50 GMC 1/2 ton build
Also got cab & running boards painted. 3 coats base, 2 clear. Really wanted a 3rd coat of clear, but the bugs started showing up and halted that idea. From what I can tell, it looks pretty good, we'll see in the morning how it came out.

This is what it looks like in some sunlight. Other than a few gnats in the paint, looks good.

Re: Kel's '50 GMC 1/2 ton build
Thanks...I must have changed my mind 1/2 dozen times before choosing. I think that with the black trim will subtly cool. Since I'm here, if anyone wants to "play", I posted the build on FB, asking my friends for nickname, so far the leader in the clubhouse is.......Steely Dan, Kel

You know the old saying...how do you eat an elephant.....1 bite at a time. Got another bite down tonight. Grill surround & emblem painted. I think the black will blend nicely with the Gunmetal.

The black does go well with the gun metal. Good call.

Re: Kel's '50 GMC 1/2 ton build
After waiting out the morning rain, still managed to get some work done. Got cab bolted on, cleaned up some of the wiring harness, steering wheel bolted in and gauges mocked up.

Re: Kel's '50 GMC 1/2 ton build
Got a lot done despite the rain. Installed new LED parking lights on frt fender, got "new grill" into grill surround, sanded on all 4 fenders while Virgil cleaned up wiring & hooked up ECM, and got radio, wipers, ignition switch all wired. Installed new electric wiper motor and wiper arms.

Re: Kel's '50 GMC 1/2 ton build
Much done past couple weeks. Not stuff that you really notice. Virgil got the LS all wired up, I got the fuse block pretty much wired in. Got the motor filled with oil/tranny fluid. We went ahead and started it up, started immediately, idled nice for about 5 seconds...then we realized in our haste, forgot no tranny lines hooked up, puked out about a pint of fluid. No biggie, was very happy to hear it run for the 1st time. Got wiring to rear cleaned up, gas gauge & pump hard wired in instead of using jumpers. Tested front/rear lights, turn signals wiring, working. Made a rubber boot for where wiring bundle comes up...I'd like to see where y'all ran your LS swap wires into cab...plucking along. Kel

Re: Kel's '50 GMC 1/2 ton build
Maiden start of new LS motor. VERY pleased there. Oil pressure was good, neutral switch was wired correct. Front & back speakers installed, sounds great. Very good past few days.

Pulled out the bed pieces to attach roll pan. Didn't do a good job of cutting out cross sill... :-(

Re: Kel's '50 GMC 1/2 ton build
One of the 1st mods I ever came across, months ago, was the one oldman3 did on his roll pan. Hope by the time its done it will at least close to as nice as what his is.

Re: Kel's '50 GMC 1/2 ton build
Thank you for the inspiration. I was finishing up on the '59 Apache when I came across the roll pan thread I saw your work. I hadn't even started working on my truck yet, but when I saw what you did, I saved that thread link. Took some "extra" effort to do, but really finishes off the install. Got a late start today, worked till almost dark, its not totally done, but pleased up to this point, Kel

Re: Kel's '50 GMC 1/2 ton build
A few days ago, I came across a thread where member built a fender hanger/tree. Got me thinking I needed something like that. Came up with this. I've had the scaffolding for some time, made good use of it here.

Re: Kel's '50 GMC 1/2 ton build
Good use of scaffolding. That works. Strong enough to hang doors too.
