Seriously though, that seat cover has been on the truck for more than the last 21 years... Came on it when the previous owner bought it off the original owner! It won't be staying for long... Trust me! It will be burned...

Re: Hello, Garage fresh 68 C10
If the seat foam is good under that cover and the seat feels correct, you might consider trying to put a new cover over the old cover. .
I noticed the add on electric choke. it's not original, but is a good thing, my opinion. I hate starting some classic cars/pickups, you have to baby sit them for the first 2-5 minutes in am, when starting in cold weather....sometimes...depends on carb adjustments.. Folks need to save many of your pictures to have memory of what a pretty much unmolested pickup looked like... Carry on!!! Waiting to see what it looks like after paint clean up!!! |

Correct again! Original Carb was replaced by the Original Owner when he had carb issues... May locate an original to put on the shelf, future full restoration. Was thinking along those lines; unmolested original (mostly)... Kinda' a "survivor" so may just fix what needs it, and keep as much original as possible. Thoughts? Thanks All! Mike

Re: Hello, Garage fresh 68 C10
Your truck is the only '68 I have ever seen that does not have the inside of the cab painted the same as the body color (?) Interior color uses the contrasting light green that '67s do. Your VIN shows a very early production truck. Someone who knows these trucks better than now I may be able to comment on that. Super nice, well optioned original truck, I wouldn't change a thing other than the seat and disc brakes, Drive and enjoy

I was wondering about that... Does seem unusual to be such a contrasting color. I am not well versed in the colors, didn't know 67's used that lighter shade of green color other than it was one of the green options - I also thought it was as you said; "inside of the cab painted the same as the body color". Any insight by others would be really appreciated. Thanks again! Mike

Looked under the front seat, no luck spotting a broadcast sheet tucked in the springs... Bummer. So next I tried to unwire (Will bring wire cutters on my next stop) the Red Velour seat cover to check the status / color of the factory seat upholstery. All I can say is it "IS" still in place, had to sneak my hand under the red and felt a foam pad under it - and on top of the factory seat upholstery. Still some hope its in condition good enough where new cloth upholstery can be sewn in. Received the final parts for the tune up, filters, and the rest so the mechanic can get on it and get her running again - This week I hope! Clearing a garage bay out for her, formerly parked my 98 Camaro SS... Other half of the garage needs a garage sale, and bon-fire perhaps! Would like to keep both my toys under roof.

Re: Hello, Garage fresh 68 C10
Is the seat an original 68 seat? Wonder why someone put a red velour cover on it? That's why I asked about the seat itself being original. Maybe someone swapped seats.
I'm curious because, I just happened across a 67-68 seat. Got it all torn down to sandblast the frame. First time I ever run across a seat this old. I'm usually over in the 73-87 section of the board. But I restore seats. So I'm poking around in here, to see what info I can find. Love that truck, makes me want to find one too.

Yes, its the original seat in there, just covered up by that "red-headed step-child" of a seat cover. Stuffed my hand under the red this afternoon, and can feel a foam pad under the red, and the original seat material beneath the foam pad - I could feel the vinyl/cloth and mating seam and a peek of it being green... Just as it should be. Once I get the red out, I'll see what I'm dealing with regarding the original seat/upholstery... it will be going back to factory stock appearance. Thanks! Mike

Redheaded stepchild, that's funny!! That's cool, I can't wait to see what it looks like. Here's the one I found. No broken springs. It will just need the foam on the seat back, which is just a slab of foam.

Re: Hello, Garage fresh 68 C10
I just noticed from your VIN that our trucks are even more similar than I thought, they were both from the same plant! My VIN is CE148B149719. As stated above, yours definitely is an earlier '68 which may be why your interior is the lighter green. Mine came down the line quite a bit later at #49,719 and by that time the interiors were matched to the exterior.

Love this truck and how original and unmolested it is. I have a 68 GMC in the 505 color, interior is painted same as exterior with the door panels, seat and visors being the light aqua as yours is. Very interesting color combo.
