Re: Restomod "good memories"

Spent most of the day Friday sanding and scuffing the interior of cab for epoxy primer. Found a 60/40 from a 94 Chevy truck that I may use. It provides a lot more room in the cab the way it is. If used I will shorten the seat mounts a bit, reinforce mounting points and obviously reupholster in the color I use. Katzkin offers leather covers for these and I am looking into it.

Re: Restomod "good memories"

Paint has been somewhat difficult, has caused a delay. Received the Nason single stage 510 blue and linen white. Expensive mistake just ordering the paint and not just getting a sample. I do not like it at all. Ordered a sample of PPG 510 base/clear it looks the same. Clearly not a mixing problem, I just do not like it. Seeing as paint cannot be shipped anywhere in the US without a hazordous license hope to sell paint locally. So I picked another color and ordered. Nason supplier did not ship and will not answer phone. For the record the company is Finish master. Ended up importing a nice PPG Deltron single stage paint (don't ask how). Arrived last Friday and hope to have some paint on the truck soon. My bed lid arrived today. Unboxed and checked fit. Looks good. Wife actually visited shop with me today to see where all the money is going. Overall a good day.

Re: Restomod "good memories"

Extended the rear frame rails yesterday to allow installation of my 66" Deaver leaf packs. Most likely will have to trim down for bed install. But rather to long than short. Funny thing is guy from shop next door asked if I was converting the truck into a long bed.

If you haven't cut that seat yet...FYI I'm 6'-3" and had the 60/40 in my '71 for many years, very comfortable and no need to shorten.

Thanks for the info. Have not done anything yet. Seat may be a while.
The white paint on the cab was squirted today. PPG Concept (Deltron) laid down real nice. Really happy with the results. If we can mask it off in the AM the main color will be applied. Will have update pics in a day or two.

Re: Restomod 72 K10 "Good Memories"

More pics. Cab and doors painted. Could not be be happier with color. While I wanted to do the original Med Bronze and white. As I mentioned my dad's truck was blue. He is the reason I love these trucks. I could not resist the urge to paint blue. A blue 72 Chevy truck reminds me of him every time I see one.

That’s gonna be a beautiful truck! I’m sure it’s a great motivator to see it in paint finally.

Re: Restomod 72 K10 "Good Memories"

Looks great! Is that 510 Blue?

Did you go with flat finish paint atop the dash and where did the white paint break inside the doors/jamb?

Thanks! Pumped up to really get going on the truck. White on fenders and tailgate was sprayed yesterday and blue today. Final sand on hood and cowl Monday. May fit fenders as well.

The paint is a 2020 GM color. It is Arctic white and main is called Rapid Blue. Was going to shoot it Ford Grabber blue then at the last minute stumbled upon the colors used. After the spray out I was blown away, really love it. Painter has some PPG Deltron matte clear in stock. Planning to spray top of dash and defrost vents with it. Will take some pics of jambs on Monday.

Re: Restomod 72 K10 "Good Memories"

Fenders mounted. Did not spend a lot of time on gaps as they will be coming back off. Also some jamb pics. Hood and cowl wet sanded today. Color goes on tomorrow. Painter always sprays a final coat of epoxy sealer and allows to tack up right before starting to lay down several coats of paint. Must be over 5 gallons of primer on the truck when done. I opted to not respray color on unseen areas like floor under door panels etc. With the paint and hardener alone over $700 a gallon it is not important to me. Also the reason for excessive masking when shooting each color.

Re: Restomod 72 K10 "Good Memories"

Threw the cowl and hood on the truck for safe keeping. Not much time spent on gaps again. Will be removed. Bit of filler work on bed tomorrow along with wet sand. White paint on Friday then blue on Saturday.
