“Castro” my new 72 build

My truck has been off road for 30years, it’s a 72 Cheyenne so just getting back to it now. Interior parts, seat belts, door panels, I don’t have seats. Took it apart back then and now trying to build it back up. So what do you have? Thanks

Sorry but I don't have much that I would get rid of, my brother and friends are all building trucks so the parts pretty much stay local.

With the original hub caps and stock wheels. Took it out for a final drive as a LWB.

I picked up a set of NOS rockers off the board. I have a set of repops that came with the truck, but these work way better. Old Castro will like these, they fit like a glove but are not cheap when you find them. Worth every penny for the labor you save.

Also picked up a new Big Block fan shroud and fan here off the board, mine were smashed. I wound up not using this fan and used a mid-80’s C-30 5 blade fan for a 454 or diesel and an ECP radiator.

Picked up these slick QA1 tie rod adjusters, got them on and have the sway bars installed front and rear.

Time to pull the body off, it gave a fight, but I won, front clip off and started gutting the cab for removal.

The cab on jack stands for cleaning and rust repair.

The original jack and handle were still in it.

Fitting up the new right-side rocker

Test fitting the door and here you can see the cab corner repair. I didn’t take pictures on this side but, I also installed a new partial inner rocker, kick panel patch and also replaced both the lower A and B pillars

Starting to fit up the left side. You can’t beat OEM rockers, they fit like a glove.

Cut out the inner rocker, both lower A and B pillars and the rusty section of the kick panel. I like to the cut the inner rockers in half and fit the front and rear separately, I sometimes find the length a little off. Also replaced the cab corner

Consolidated my parts onto the frame so I would have a bit more room to work but the cab will come back off to finish the bottom. It looks cool and at this point I needed a little motivation

Started on the Passenger door

Test fit the doors and fenders to be sure I didn't screw it up and to check alignment.

3 partial cab braces installed, one was still good. I cut out the floor board for a high hump, went with a repop high hump which works fine. This was to give me a little more room to shim the trans upward to better align the driveshaft. I dressed all the welds underneath and scrubbed, scraped and wire wheeled for hours but finally got the bottom of the cab cleaned up and coated with Ospho. I installed the high hump temporarily, so I could weld the nuts to the floor pan.

It appears that the aftermarket panels do not have the drain slots built into the bottom. There must be a way for water to get out of the door. The reason the doors rust out is that the factory holes (slots) get clogged allowing dirt and water to pool in the bottom of the door. At least drill as couple of holes in the bottom of each door.
