Happy New Year everyone ! ..... Today I disassembled the grill for the Hudson. I am not looking forward to re-assembling it once I have all of the components painted LOL .... I have one spot to fix on one of the side panels but overall the grill is in really good condition

Wow, that's a lot of individual pieces. I never would have though a razor blade would be a good way to remove a layer of paint. Is that an old lacquer paint job?

We believe it is an old lacquer paint job. The original paint is in fact lacquer and when I tried to remove it with the razor at the top of the firewall it was pretty stubbborn and did NOT want to come off at all.

Just a little side note with a back story on the Hudson. A good friend of mine suddenly passed away just before Thanksgiving. He and I had been engaging in a friendly war of words about who was going to blow whos doors off in a grudge race for pinks. 50 Hudson vs 51 Buick. He never got to actually see the Hudson in person before his sudden passing so I decided to honor him and I bought a set of 53 Buick Roadmaster hubcaps for the Hudson. I think they are going to look really good with the wide whites.

Started working on the front bumper yesterday to get it disassembled and one of the bumper guards had some rust holes so i spent a little time to repair the guard this morning

Today I started playing around with the hood a little bit. It needs some reconstruction work up front at the bottom where the top grill molding bolts to the hood. Part of the inner brace for the front of the hood is going to need some work as well so I removed it. After removing the brace I discovered someones previous patch job. Wow, what a mess but I will get it fixed up.

Lots of work going on here but that is also showing lots of progress to go along with that. Keep it up and soon you'll be cruising down the road.

Thank you guys .... The sheetmetal on the car is in really great shape for being 70+ years old, I was surprised myself. Its going to take a few tricks to make the pieces I need to repair the hood but if you all followed my build on the 72 Suburban I rebuilt the hatch for it this time last year. That was quite the challenge but it came out really nice. Been to cold to go out there and do anything the past 2 weeks, plus with all the snow we have been getting hit with the railroad has been an absolute mess so that has slowed things down as well in the garage. Nothing worse than shoveling and blowing snow all day and night at work then you have to do it all over again at home lol.

Thank you LT7A. Havent been working on the Hudson as of late due to the weather and other around the house duties. I plan on getting back at it here soon but will have to take another break at the end of May to start on the kitchen remodel. Once that is completed I will resume working on the Hudson. Would really like to have it wired and the drivetrain set back in it before winter this year, keep your fingers crossed LOL

A little bit here, little bit there and as long as the project moves along there is progress being made. Life always has a way of throwing things in the mix to slow the process. My wife has been talking similarly, " Honey, I've been thinking, I sure would like a new kitchen with cabinets and flooring."

Can't say much after the cost of restoring the truck, 71 Chevelle and the 57, LOL.

LOL !!! .... Hopefully the kitchen goes smoothly for both of us. Today I think Im going to go out and try to refresh my memory on what I was doing last so I can either pick up where I left off, or rethink my strategy.

Yesterday I started to disassemble some of the dash on the Hudson. I was under the impression that the clock in the dash was 6 volts, upon further disassembly it in fact is a wind up clock. So I carefully removed the cover to inspect the internals of the clock, then cleaned it a little and much to my surprise the clock still works!!!! So now I need to repaint the background on the face and reassemble the clock. Cant believe after 72 years that the clock still works but back then things were built to last

Today I repainted the face for the clock and reassembled it. Turned out pretty good. I couldnt duplicate the original "style" so to speak because I have no idea what style of numbers they used back then. So the face doesnt have the 3D look it had but Im ok with it, I am just happy the clock is operational.

Yesterday I removed the windshields from the Hudson and took the dash out of the car ( will prep and paint at a later date ) This is going to provide me with much needed space to install the wiring harness in the car when I get to that point. Dash removal was a bit challenging but not all bad. Dont understand why something so basic had to have 500 bolts and screws in it to hold it all together but I guess thats how they did things back then lol
