That VW had shoulder belts in it. When I seen the dodge not stopping I laid over in front of the passenger seat. If I had been belted in I couldn't have laid over, in turn prolly snapping my head off or the strut that went through my line of sight in the windshield (shish-ka-bob)Only got ruptured disc and torn rotator.
Oh, 120 miles round trip to work and 45 mpg vw diesel is why I drove the car. ------------------

Ouch, that's one heck of a freaky accident...
Were there cars in front of you or to both sides? I'd look for an escape route fast before I crumple up into a ball...and hopefully avoid the accident altogether to boot, if not lessen the impact by being moving already. 120mi round trip? Dang, where do you live? I'm not used to that idea at -all-...then again, that's what I get for living in Phoenix...that's just about the only acceptable excuse for that car...this is just me, but I'd look for a closer job before I look for a different car to get me to the job. ------------------ Project 1970 - soon to be seen at http://milhouse.treylis.org:81/ [This message has been edited by Project1970 (edited March 30, 2002).]

Always wear mine! When I rolled my truck at the beginning of the month I would've been rolled over on. Thanks to the belt I only got a bent steerong wheel and a busted lip. I can't afford that stupid ticket and besides they just get in the way otherwise just layin' around like that. All of our vehicles are lifted and are even easier to roll so a belt is a must around here, for passengers too! I may be a teenager but I have enough brains to buckle up.

It was at a stoplight on Hwy 395 between minden and carson city nevada. Stopped and around 9 cars stopped total, to the side and front of me. Hard to get out of the way when sitting still and the dodge was doing 60. Did what I could, laid over, in the amount of time I had. Totaled the car ahead of me as well.
I don't have small cars anymore. ------------------

I always wear my belts and have taught all my family too as well. I street rodded a '57 Ford Pickup a few years ago and installing 3 pt belts was one of my major concerns - took some shade tree engineering but I feel safe driving it. The '67 C-10 I'm currently working on will have 3 pt belts and when putting in all the normally rusted out parts I have welded in extra steel reinforcement. Some engineers may say that the cab body is designed to "give" so a sudden impact does not stress the human body too much. I"d still rather be in a structurally sound compartment.

As stated before, My insurance will not pay for medical bills or death if not wearing a seatbelt. So I wear it all the time. Where I work, any machine or truck that has the key in the ignition, you must wear a seat belt. I have seen sidebooms on train wrecks that turned over, would have been crushed like a bug if not for the seat belt. Daughter was following one of her friends home the other night. She was driving her dads F@rd Explorer. Thought it would take corners fast on a dirt road, rolled it 2 times. They came to my house to see if I would pull it out so she wouldn't have to tell her dad she wrecked it. Asked her if she thought that nobody was going to be able to tell. Kids...lol

Always. I hear the 3 point belts are much much safer than just the lap belts.

I wear mine 75% of the time if im running to the corner mini mart for something speed limit 35 i usually fail to put it on,but if cruising for any distance around here-i put it on lots of wrecks around here,i think all the crosses on the sides of the roads should prove something, and if going down the freeway at 75-90 and i have a blowout i certainly want that belt strapped to my ass,see to many news reports at night where driver and passangers were thrown from vehicle because of not wearing.Hell if i was smart id put it on when doing a burn out in my own driveway,In our little Nissan i put the belt on everytime we leave even thought it has airbags,im not willing to see how well they work, but in a fullsize real american car i feel a bit safer.worst thing that might happen if hit real hard is ill have a big block in my crotch.

I wear mine always.I haven't been in many major accidents, just a few fender benders.I do however live in Atlanta and it is the rubbernecking capitol of the world. On top of that the "me first" idiots will cause you to hurt yourself avoiding them.I have seen people here not only talk on the phone but read the paper,a book, even saw one guy with a bowl and spoon having his morning cereal at 70 mph.The people on the roads here have no concern for anyones safety including their own.One girl stopped at the red light ahead of me leaned out her door and spit a big gob of white crap on the ground. As I passed her I realized she was probably going to start putting on make-up since she had finished brushing her teeth.
My wife and I have an agreement; If either of us is ever rearended by one of these idiots,we twitch until the pain and emotional distress settlement reaches 7 figures. ------------------ Deland does Chevys 68Chevy panel(LIZ) "A man and his truck,it's a beautiful thing" "I have the body of a god, unfortunately it's Budda"

Im with wes, I would probably wear it if it wasn't for someone telling me I had to. I have been in 2 wreck's. The first one, a guy turned in front of me when I was going 60 we hit head on bumper to bumper and didn't get a scratch. So they gave me a brand new rental car and I thought I would see what it could do got it to 90 and for some odd reason a tie rod broke, and the lady behind me said I rolled 10 or 12 times very wild ride. I didnt have a seat belt on either time no injuries.

I wear mine always - my wife doesn't wear her's all the time and it cracks me up when my 5 year old asks her why she is breaking the law - then she buckles up.
I want to get rid of the lap only belts in my 69, half the time they are buckled it seems it comes loss from the buckle and I've never been a big fan of lap only belts. Can give quite an abdomen injury. I understand it is a personal decision for many and I that is fine. However, when I see a car load of kids with a parent and they are obviously unbuckled, I get mad. Especially when a kid is riding on somebody's lap. That's a great way to kill a kid. Buckle them up. ------------------ 1969 C20 4x4 with roughly 6" lift and 35's residing near Rose Hill, Kansas Yukon Jack's Web Pages
