Back to gas prices. I lost an old (but perfectly usable) commercial-grade chain saw by letting it sit too long with ethanol-tainted gas in it. Expensive lesson learned, I now buy ethanol-free gas (race fuel, they say) for all my small engines. Last stuff I bought was $8+ at the bulk plant in the city. I'm running low so I stopped by today for a couple more gallons. Place was closed up tighter than a drum. I called the number, yep, they no longer have a retail outlet there, but they say I can buy ethanol-free gas at the nearby saw shop. OK, I go there and find 5 gallon cans for $95 + tax, total nearly $102. That's over $20 per gallon! Thanks but no thanks. Maybe Google can tell me how to separate ethanol from gasoline. Meantime, I'll turn off the fuel supply & run 'em until they stop.... which is what I should have been doing anyway.

To separate ethanol from standard mix gas you can use of all things...water....
Test this...add some water, about 1/2" into a small bottle and fill the remainder of the bottle with standard mix gas. Cap the bottle and shake is for a minute or two, leave it sit and the ethanol will separate to the bottom of the bottle....

I routinely check so called Non Ethanol fuels using this method...it works everytime.

Note....removing the ethanol will lower the octane rating of the gas...may cause engine knock and damage.

Small engines are especially susceptible to ethanol degradation of fuel system parts, especially if the ethanol mix fuel is left in the bowl of the carb or tank. Ethanol attracts water from the atmosphere, it collects in the fuel tank and the destruction begins.

Local non ethanol gas at the local gas station is around $4.70 a gallon.

After weeks at around $3.09 to $3.19 ours is now $2.99, again. And I had just filled up thinking it was only going up. Mind games I tell ya.

Price drops 5 cents.

Tuesday you are at a 7/8 of a full tank What do you do???

Thursday it drops 5 cents again .

Your not even 1/2 a tank

I remember my sister and I took my brothers 56 Pontiac to go cruise main . We put 75cents worth in and got 3 gallons or more. I might have been 11 or 12 at the time. She was 5 years older than me at the time and he was a year older than her. Today regular was $3.39.

Haven't post to this for awhile. Been holding steady at $3.29 for 87 octane corn squeezins' now for almost 3 weeks.

Ours went up 10 cents, miraculously just in time for Memorial Day weekend. Currently holding steady at $5.30 (cash only) for self-serve 87.

On a brighter note, I found an outlet for non-ethanol. Only one hour away and after taxes & fees, just over $9 per gallon. I was so happy, I bought 2 gallons!

Locally, our 87 is all over the place in the last 2 weeks. From $2.92 to 3.19 and back down to $2.89.

Got gas yesterday. Still $4.69 per gallon. Not holding my breath for a decrease anytime soon.

I hear ya, Boog. It is more than a bit shocking. But after losing a perfectly good older commercial-grade chainsaw to ethanol, I'll pay up for the good stuff to use in my small engines.

I Use only Corn Free gas in my Tractors and Lawnmowers also.
I am lucky that there is a station a few miles up the road.

I do remember to pump the 1st few gallons in my truck.
That way I get the Pure stuff (Hopefully)
Because it is a (shared) pump that you choose one or the other.

I realize there are varying results using egas.
With that said, I have bought high octane/ethanol free gas for the lawn equipment only a couple of times but 99% of the time I just use 87 octane with up to 10% ethanol blend and so far have never experienced any engine troubles. I used one riding mower 18 years and another 12 years and never even changed the spark plugs in them. I sold each one running great when I bought a new one. I have always had an acre to take care of.
I do store my equipment in the shop and I usually run the units out of gas so none sits in the carb over the cold months.
I have seen some corrosion inside some small engine carbs others have posted though.

That's probably the difference(s).

1) My stuff is stored in outdoor sheds for months at a time, and

2) Until recently, I never ran the carbs dry -- and never had a problem.

Regular 87 is 3.64 and going up every couple of days . Diesel on the other hand is 3.69and falling every couple of days the last two weeks

Ours is still at $5.30. Our illustrious guvnor said he's going after Big Oil because they are price gouging. Speaking of gouging, he seems perfectly happy to have Calif fuel taxes at or near the highest in the nation. Hmmmmm...

Right now Currently the Price is $2.88 for gas and $3.20 for diesel on the average around here.
Seems to be on the Decline.
Time will tell.

Be nice to see you there. I’m taking the 85 the hood for the 68 is still sitting on the panel stand . I’m debating whether to repaint it or not it’s got some dust in it and it bothers me to no end . Don’t think a light nib will work on it

$4.79 today. Was $4.69 for quite some time. Hope that dime goes to a good cause.....

Went up $.20 since yesterday 2.76 to 2.96 at the cheaper places. Most other places tend to be 10 to 15 cents more than that.

Wow !!! Our non ethonal 91 is 4.45 a gallon . Regular is 3.67 I bought diesel for 3.61 first time in years it was less than regulars gas . Not rejoicing it’s still to high

Sitting at $3.09 for 87 around my house and $2.99 for 87 near work across town. When I filled up my mustang a couple weeks ago E0 87 was $3.99.

Good grief! Has there been a refinery blow up or something lately?
We've been hovering around the $3.00 mark for many weeks now but this week the jackwads around here hiked the price 18 to 20 cents in one day. Highest one here is now $3.41 (circle k ). Places here normally change by up to 10 cents at a time. Our lowest here was $3.09 Monday and is now $3.27. Wazzup?
