Re: 68 C20 new clutch won't disengage

Sunday I might bolt it back together and see if I had the clutch disc off center and pinched under the pressure plate. I think that might have been what happened.
I will keep you posted.

If it was off center it would have been a huge fight getting the transmission in. Then as soon as you stepped on the clutch, the disc would center up on the plate.

Re: 68 C20 new clutch won't disengage

I took and put it back together but first I tried the pressure plate bolt mounting surfaces back away from the clutch disc. I also made sure it didn't pinch the clutch disc under the pressure plate. I can now shift it. Have to shift to first then reverse otherwise it grides reverse this did it with the old clutch in it as well.
Now that I can drive it the shutter on take off is gone! So nice. Problem is the clutch doesn't release until I have the pedal almost at the top and it is very hard to hold it there. Any suggestions as to why the release point is so high on the pedal strocke?

It is in the hole closet to the transmission I was going to move it to the out board hole next when the muffler cools off

You should set your pedal up with about 2 inches of movement until the throw out bearing touches the fingers.
Try that first.

Re: 68 C20 new clutch won't disengage

Thank you I will look at the free play. I moved it to the outbored hole and it releases about half way up from the floor now. Wish it was a tad bit lower to the floor but not enough free play I think. Good news is we have it working.
Thanks for all the help everyone
