Re: Back to the basics...My 1966 C30 to C10 project.
Deciding to go with a manual trans instead of the automatic has definetly added more work.
Transmission installed ! flywheel torqued(with blue loctite) clutch, psi plate clutch fork, throw out bearing all installed and tight. I got the transmission and crossmember from a friend. The trans and crossmember is from a 69 1/2 ton 2wd. The crossmember had to be redrilled to work correctly. (I originally bolted the trans crossmember in correctly as I was putting the engine and trans in I realized the trans crossmember had to be flipped around to light up with the bell housing bolts. When I was pulling the clutch and pressure plate out to torq the flywheel with the engine installed in the truck. I realized I could not drop the psi plate out of the bell housing the trans X member was the way. I revered the trans XMember and the clutch and psi plate dropped out like it should. So I refilled trans X member to work with holes in frame.) I have been scrounging around for some clutch linkage. I did find some. I will be tinkering with it to make it work correctly as my motor and transmission are in not the V8 or 6 cyl location. My front engine stands are in the 6cylinder location (rear 2 holes ) but my engine stands are reversed so the engine is 1.75" forward not the the 2.75 it should be. I did measure the offset in relation to the motor mount hole. I'm not the best at explaining thru a key board. Hoping the pics make sense. My radiator hoses are long enough. I haven't been able to locate a manual transmission crossmember for A 63?-66 c10. I am moving forward and will make everything work...

Re: Back to the basics...My 1966 C30 to C10 project.
Just to be clear the trans is all bolted up and the bell housing mounts are spilling flat on the crossmember. We are moving forward. The tail shaft is centered between the frame rails and the tail shaft is slightly less than 3degrees down hill.
Here is some of the ZBar and clutch linkage I have scrounged up. 63?-66 Z bar linkage on the left and 67-72 on the right.

I made a trip the the local exhaust warehouse to grab some goodies so I could start on the exhaust.

Re: Back to the basics...My 1966 C30 to C10 project.
Shortly. After starting the exhaust I thought I wanted to run the exhaust thru the center of the frame. I bought nice strong well built part from a local source.

Definitely good to see progress. Sucks about the temps, but its a dry heat right?

Great work, it looks fantastic.
In Europe, we're also moaning about the heat right now, with around 38 degrees Celsius in northern Germany. Regards Harald

Re: Back to the basics...My 1966 C30 to C10 project.
I changed the plan on the exhaust. I am running it outside of the frame. I got the front part done on both sides. I am really happy with how well it's tucked up. It has several welds to hold it in place. I will pull it out and finish the welding at my house.

Re: Back to the basics...My 1966 C30 to C10 project.
As I mentioned before the motor and trans location are not stock so I relocated the clutch pedal pivot on the frame. And I drilled the new hole for the engine stands. I call it the Jeff hole.

I brought the truck home on July 10th. I'm excited to get this truck up and running.

Re: Back to the basics...My 1966 C30 to C10 project.
I did get some wood to get started on the bed floor. I have an idea to do a simple affordable wood bed floor. The wood will all be painted satin black.

I really wish the forum just had a like button for posts, nothing fancy with tons of options just a thumbs up. I constantly feel like I want to let someone know that I'm checking out their thread and like the progress they are making but don't want to feel like I'm constantly spamming them with Nice truck! Good job!
