It's good to have a sturdy steering wheel, but don't you think a wood one would match your Saddle Trim?

I agree 100% ...I had this wheel and 3 others laying around this one is a direct fit no adapter needed ...gained about 1.75 between me and the wheel so for a no $$$s quick fix comfort fit ...the others I have on the shelf (I should put them all up for sale I won't use them) with what ill call back spacing in reverse or protrude out from the column ....a dark oak or wood wheel would be my choice .I have seen them and will look and maybe put a WTB or trade for what I took off this truck. I need to do some research on wheels and get the measurements for what fits me....the wheel I used came from this truck I replaced it with that wood one ...now a wheel like that with a dark oak wood would fit me and look the best ......IMHO long winded YES

When I bought my '71 Jimmy, the PO had installed an aftermarket Grant woodie wheel. About 12'' in diameter. OK if Power Steering is working well, but murder if it isn't. I didn't hate the wood, but I didn't like the ''feel'' or the way it handled
The last straw was that wheel coming off in my hand while in traffic. Lucky for me he included the OEM 17'' wheel. When I put that back on, the way the truck handled was so much better.

I have been thinking of putting a 16.5'' dia. 67/68 3-Spoke wheel on it. Not that I need clearance for a massive beer gut, but my other truck is a '68, and I'm used to it. Also I want to move the Wiper switch over Left, and relocate the Headlight switch below it -- just so the Controls are identical. And it would look cool. I do have a GMC '68 horn button. And Ilike the way the 3-Spoke wheel fits my hand.

Re: Grand Theft Auto

I have one from a 67 in my "I am from the Desert" build with a Tilt and its great .I painted it with SEM in Light saddle matched I thought perfect ...after I sent the message this morning I looked again at grant wood wheels ...the what they call dish or offset sticks out to far for my 73 year old belly .....and when I got in my truck this morning I said why don't I paint this baby with dark saddle .....your thoughts?

Re: Grand Theft Auto

Well, it looks OK to me. Looks like the Column was Fawn. A darker color won't show dirt.

I still haven't got a good fresh can of GM-spec Fawn paint for my '68 wheel, Still running around with a Seafoam Green wheel. Although member 58 Special sent me a Hugger Orange 3-Spoke wheel for free plus postage. Issue is the Horn contact system. I think the upper ball bearing race needs replacement. Possibly the lower ball bearings too. As is, when the whole wheel is assembled, the Horn is always on. So it's all disconnected and I can't honk at idiots.
Another thing, is the T/S lever came loose and I've been using a reflective orange construction glove on my left hand and making manual turn signals. Cops are OK with it so far.
Once the '68's wheel is back to normal, I'll refurbish the green wheel, and paint it Black for the Jimmy.

Re: Grand Theft Auto

I took a chance on the fuel gauge not reading properly because the sending unit was bad not the gauge …..good guess the PO put a new fuel tank and used the original 55 year old sending unit …. We have 1/4 tank read now prior to the switch out of the unit we were full or 1/4 past full and I’m doing this from my iPad and it won’t allow me to add pictures from my iPad because the server won’t allow me in on my computer….help I sent Josh a pm he hasn’t responded yet

Re: Grand Theft Auto

Zicc, if you need more room you can collapse the intermediate shaft and move the column towards the dash. There's a few threads on here that show how.

Truck is looking nice.
