I just wanted to revisit this Impala / early first gen truck column base plate which I can spend as much time on shaping as I did restoring the entire inside of the cab, ha ha

it's honestly amazing how the smaller the piece the longer it takes - can any of youz relates? this thing seriously has at least 4 bends in it, which is like 3 bends above my Skill Level, ha ha

just sharing a pic of the PUROLATOR fuel filters I like to use, cause i know in a year I will be cussin' and fussin' having forgotten them part numbers, decent "universal" parts is getting harder and harder to find, they won't even sell them to you unless they can link it to some vehicle at the point of sale, so I just tell them Nissan Leaf and reach for the cash in my wallet, that ought to blow their minds!

one is 5/16ths (F20011) the other 3/8ths hose (F21111) depending which size fuel line size you is runnin'

The Greg likes to run one before the fuel pump to keep debris out of it's diaphragm and the second one before the carb, to keep things out of it's well you know jets, and needles, and cavities

now if you like carb problems by all means treat yourself to one of them sexy glass and chrome jobbies with the orange cone filter inside, it will keep you busy for quite some time, ha ha

so we were supposed to wire the electric fan today, so naturally we did something else

I must admit I am not too pleased with the black door insides, so we will label Ver. 1.0 as a failure, things are nice and clean and absent of rust, or at least we covered it up and hope it suffocates, ha ha but the color palette does not speak to me at all

those of you still on the fence about getting a Media Tumbler, um don't!

tumbling hardware especially screws such as these stainless has gotten some sort of media tumbling debris stuck in every single philips screw head requiring a pick to extract it, also all the threads had rust replaced with media tumbling crud, so they had to be wire brushed regardless

if I had to do it over again I would buy a second 4 1/2 angle grinder and keep a wire wheel attachment on it permanently saving me the time of swapping discs

this is not a new bleeder valve this is after 2 minutes with the wire wheel and a shot of some compressed brake cleaner, it's not optimal on the account of pitting but for once around the block it shall might do

I'm a one man band so I have nobody to pump the brakes as I bleed them, so we use the vacuum pumpulator

you've heard of the Tesla self driving cars, where you sit back and let the car drive by itself and if need be you grab the steering wheel and override it? Well, this truck is sort of like that but takes the concept even further, we don't even have a steering column, a gas pedal, nor gauges, ... yup, absolutely no need and way ahead of it's time.

snuck out this morning and decided to get the emergency / parking brake working before it got to be 100° F today

it can be very tempting and seem logical to start by adjusting the parking brake cable, but that is not always the case...

here we demonstrate (my lovely wife and I) how when the parking brake is applied the brake adjustment is already fully extended, it really doesn't take much, see the greenish spring and how it is completely compacted, well it can't get more compressed than that, so it makes no sense to tighten the emergency brake cable, it's already doing it's job

Note: there aint that much movement, it's maybe 3/16ths of an inch

and here's How To Adjust the Parking Brake Without Adjusting the Parking Brake

one of the most neglected yet important components in my opinion of the drum brake system is this here star automagical adjuster / brake shoe expander, I believe every time you go in reverse it tries to expand a click if it can

I have seen these completely seized up on some rigs, no wonder the drum brakes get such a bad rap!

lets show ours a little love, once cleaned up you should be able to fully screw it in and unscrew it by hand while it's off the truck, nice and easy peasy no snags or tools involved
