Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)
the bracket piece is just tacked so when i set the motor i can adjust it or move it. i measured exactly 2 1/8" back so i think it will be perfect and its big enough so i can move the stand up to 1" either way. i'm learning alot. the more i do the more i understand and realize its not as hard as it seems!
BTW, THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP BILLY & WILLY!

The bracket set up is looking good. Will it need some gusseting, or is it strong enough as is? (Once welded up of course.)

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)
thanks guys!
Well..... SHE'S IN!!!!!! just got cleaned up... i went and spent a small fortune at the local welding supply today, came home and got busy. i was out there for 10 hours straight. i ended up taking off the bracket we tacked on yesterday because the flux core was horrible. i welded everything up, smoothed, and painted. For those doing this swap the Fred way, i had to clearance the clam shell so the bolts would clear. then i ended up just beveling out the front, right, bottom bolt hole so i could just put the flush mount bolt in. painted everything up and dropped her in. i left the passenger side engine stand unbolted and lined everything up. it just so happens there is a bolt hole on the xmember that lines up perfectly so i could put 1 bolt in and mark the holes. took the motor out for the final time to drill the holes and dropped her back in. this all sounds alot easier than it was and thanks Bob for taking the emergency phone call today! really helped out here's all the pictures from today

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)
so next is help Draggin86 make a template for the trans x member. i think i'm going to go with tubing and let him do his magic. the tranny is sitting in there perfect right now so it should'nt be too bad... i'm also going to start cleaning up and painting the acc. brackets and get everything on the motor. reminds me i need to get a knock sensor harness, sensors, and intake gaskets just for piece of mind. hopefully in the next few weeks the body work will start so i can get the cab on her!
and if it werent for my neighbor buddy Will i'd still be out there trying to line those damn motor mount bolts! thanks man!!

O HELL YEAH! Engine looks sweet in there. Great work on the engine stand mod. Glad to see you made some progress and it wont be long the cab will be back on and it'll start looking like a truck again. Once i got the cab back on my last project it really made me believe I was getting somewhere.

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)
!! thanks alot guys! i'm super excited myself!!!!!
i forgot to add last night that if anyone questions the strength of the bracket welded on without a gusset or brace... i had the entire weight of the engine and trans sitting on the corner of the oil pan and the bracket i welded on and it didnt crack, move, bend, or fall off! and it was also ALOT easier to just bevel the plates and flush mount the allen head bolts so they dont interfere with the clam shell. thats how i'll do my next one right from the start. (spent alot of time grinding on the clam shells)
