i agree i was looking at the prices of one of those intakes and it was pretty steep it might be that there stand alone cpu was included in the set i looked at though

Ls1 intakes are cheaper than the ls6 intakes. Ls6 intakes make a little more power, but more importantly they don't have a large hole in the top of them for an egr valve like the ls1's do. You can block it of with a freeze plug but it doesn't look as good. Last time I checked it was pretty easy to find a ls6 intake for around $300-$350 but it's been a while since I've looked.

Just call me "Johnny-Come-Lately", page 30 and I'm just now getting in on it and subscribed. Better late than never right?? lol

Admittedly I am quite the newby, however, I did notice that this is a lot of talk about intakes going on and something you may want to consider in the decision is the heads. I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that the ports on the LS- truck heads are a "Cathedral Port" design. If you're using the stock heads on an LS truck engine they may be different from the port design on the intakes built for the cars (Corvette/Camaro). I don't know how different the Cathedral port design is from the oval or square port, but you definitely want them to match.... again just a newby, but the thought crossed my mind anyhow.

When your trying to decide what intake to run, note that most of the low pro intakes make the motor look squished. They sit low in a square making them look even flatter. If asthetics are of concern, you will need a taller truck style intake.

Hey Mike..not sure if you measured this at all when the tank and axle were still in but what was the space like between the axle and front of the gas tank? Is there any room in there at all? Any idea of how many inches it is, In other words do you know if a bag would fit behind axle and infront of gas tank...its hard to get under mine right now to tell. Thanks for any help

the single intake tubes on the harris intake will kill all the low down grunt i was thinking about sumting like that on a turbo motor but the builder advised me not to as it would be out of the operating range of the turbo's cam and basicly the engine as a whole

another nice option would be the stock coveringplates from a corvette painted in the same colour as the body and some plate over the intake itself , i seen it a few times and it looks verry clean


you might even be able to let that plate flow intoo the same type of radiatorcovering you did on cloud 9 and hide the airfilter under it too

The ls1/ls6 intake will work with truck heads just fine. If you get into the ls3 and newer heads they will not. But that doesnt really matter for you because to run those heads you gave to have a bore bigger than 4.000 which the 5.3 doesn't have

its all in the feel for the material and less to do with strength , i think a young person would learn it eazier as long as hes somewat patient
i used to work with the paintstripper at a place where they overhaul airliners we where packed in pretty good but i was sweating and after wiping myself off i noticed there was a blob of the stuff on my sleeve i used to wipe my forhead with , it turned intoo a cartoonish (myheadisonfiremyheadisonfire) run to the badroom to wash the stuff off and i had a big red burn on it for a few weeks after , the kid actually shouldve worn long sleeves along with the gloves when working with the stuff

LOL...maybe i can find an intake sponsor dont think i wont ask ! LOL That is some pretty cool fab stuff !

Here is what we did this weekend, got the frame table unloaded (wheel welded back on) started mocking up stuff

I was revisiting the thought of using the stock frame once again but once i trim off the bottom of the frame i will then have to lift my front crossmember so...i think it is complete frame now !

I did make a template of the outside of the complete frame rail

Diggin this phase! So---is the frame the same on a 4-by as a 2-by? Particularly the front crossmember 'arch'. And while I'm asking, maybe a '69-'72 K-to-C Blazer conversion veteran can chime in on the same Q for that gen.

yes the frame is the same the 4x4 just doesnt have the factory holes for the crossmember to bolt in like the 2wd does

I missed that line---I see now that the Scott's crossmember is lower than the rails. As an alternative to a custom frame, a 2wd square body frame would be easier to find (and cheaper) than a 1st gen C blazer---would that have the correct front crossmember location? Alternative #2--how about a C10 frame from the front horns back to the rear notch cut?
