Re: "Rice Rocket'
That's right, you'll get it! Dont forget to smear a little grease on the input shaft of your tranny where it goes into the pilot bushing before you put it in..and on the bearing retainer where the throwout bearing rides... and on the little round ball that the release fork pivots on. Is your bellhousing the one that has the rear motor mounts on it?

Re: "Rice Rocket'
Yes its the bellhousing that the rear motor mounts on it.
I forgot to to put grease on the end of the shaft, i greased the splines but not the pilot bushing area...? Anyhow, I got the trans on today! Emptied all the new oil but hey i'll go synthetic lol. Got the driveshaft on. Got the starter on and the (+) on, purple wire i dropped the nut and was too late to hunt it lol To Do: *Wire up purple wire *Put inspection plates back on trans *adjust clutch *Fix pinched ps return line *add trans oil PITA lol *adjust shift linkage *finish rebuilding carb 95% done lol pretty much need to put the top back on *install carb *wire tach *fix water leak (very slow at waterneck with new gasket UGH *set timing *set carb *find the clicky vavle OR tighten/check all exhaust bolts/nuts Think thats it lol, gonna try to pull a long one tomorow nite maybe? VERY quick burnout video sometime this weekend maybe? I cant WAIT!

Re: "Rice Rocket'
Have you left the 3 speed on the column or is it in the floor? Did you ever find your tick? If your bellhousing has the inspection cover at the bottom you wont have to pull the whole bellhousing next time you do a clutch job, just the trans. The burnouts will be here before you know it!

Re: "Rice Rocket'
If you get the linkage on the ol' tree adjusted right and some good bushings in it you'd be suprised how well it'll speed shift. Plus it makes it easier for your girl to sit beside you !

Re: "Rice Rocket'
To Do:
*Set timing CORRECT *re-set valves (one is clicking) *finish rebuild install edelbrock 600 *set carberator *cap/rotor/new plug wires *Fill up with gas (maybe re engineer filler) And I got the shop cleaned today and my clutch problem was resolved with short TB lol (gotta hurry the fair is this week lol) FROM ENGINES THREAD: ok, got my clutch problem taken care of (had wrong throwout bearing..) My timing needs to be 12-13 btdc? Right? Also, thats with the line going to dizzy plugged? Ok, i have fancy light with a dial, if I set the dial at 13* btdc i wanna line the marks on the balancer/timing tab at -- 0* right? then the gun makes the difference? Im a lil confused here. I picked up a edelbrock 600 cfm from a friend, im rebuilding it. Will that be enough for this motor? Thank you I still have an exhaust leak and 1 vavle is ticking, im not sure if its the leak or a valve still loose, i'll run thru tickers faq on vavle settings again I did take it down the driveway and back, doesnt have much power, but the timing is quite a few degrees off..? What is the order? Time the motor adjust carberator (2 front screws) then adj. idle? thank you ps what should it idle at (rpms?) oh, I just thought of something i forgot!!! what should the gap on the plugs be set at? thank you

Sure it's not an exhaust leak you are hearing?

Re: "Rice Rocket'
Do you know exactly which lifter is ticking? Are you sure its not an exhaust manifold leak? I believe the idle is supposed to be around 800 rpm in neutral ( make sure you block them wheels to keep it from rolling away if you set it yourself) I THINK the timing is supposed to be around 8 degrees base with the vacuum advance unplugged but the best way Ive found to set mine for all around driveability is to find a quiet road somewhere and drive it a little bit and adjust it a little bit. Simply put, if it turn up like a dog it's too low and if it detonates any at all its too high. How much timing you can get away with running depends on what grade of gas you plan on running

Re: "Rice Rocket'
I must run 93 octane (or said the machinest).
It could be the exhaust leaking somewhere. All the bolts are tighened down with new dounuts/gaskets... Idk, it gets faster with the rpms?... Right now it idles at 1k (needs tuning lol working on that this week) Oil filter was a PITA took 20 minutes to get off I bet, i tried everything lol, then finally found the filter wrench..I put it on hand tight this time LOL (pics comming)

Re: "Rice Rocket'
An exhaust leak and bad timing could make a HUGE difference in performance so don't lose hope yet...
Did you set the timing with cyl 1 at TDC on the compression stroke? Was the rotor pointing to the #1 plug wire? If it's off a tooth the timing can be waaaay off... Haven't played much with advance curve springs/weights so someone else will have to chime in on that...

Re: "Rice Rocket'
dont get frustrated cause this will help you learn it inside and out. i know i have an edelbrock carb and had some trouble getting it to be set right. before even thinking about it check for exhaust leak like vac72 said. that way you know if it is valves or exhaust. i know if your timing is of you could have valve ping. check out these two links and it should be a good start/help to get you in the right direction i know it helped me out, also something to think of checking for any vacuum leaks. but i would do the exhaust leak check, timing then carb/vacuum if you dont resolve with the first 2. if you change anything in you carb make sure to right it down any adjustments, amount of turns and any jet, spring changes. ask me how i know it is easier in the long run.
