Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D

Update:

Pic 1. Here is the doner motor for the truck.
It came out of a 99 Silverado (farm truck)

Pic 2. This was after 3hrs of scraping! Hands down the nastiest
engine I've ever seen!

Pic 3. Another shot showing the ugly vs pretty...ish side

Poc 4. This was after 4 rounds of power washing and
Scrubbing.

Poc 5. The new pan I'll be using (from 2010 camaro) not the best
Choice because of the sump area being so far forward.

Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D

I hear you on the scraping/cleaning part. I had a hell of a time cleaning up an engine at the shop that had a slow Pentosin(power steering fluid) leak. It would collect dirt and the heat of the engine turned it into a tar like goo. The easiest way I found to get it off, if you cant get it into a cleaning tank, was to use a bristle brush(tooth brush size one) and lots of degreaser to first break up the sticky stuff and get down to the metal surface. I found pressure washing straight at the goo, just wont cut through it quickly.

Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D

Thanks Guys for checking in!

I cant really complain on the engine though to much I bought the farm truck for $600 and after removing the vital parts I sold the rest for $500 to my sons friend.

Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D

Went through the same thing on my last LS. I use degreaser and brake cleaner. The brake cleaner really sucks up the moisture so the grease kinda flakes off better. Had about 60hrs in teardown, clean, paint, rebuilt, test stand start. I also sprayed the block then took a rosebud torque to it to get it dry. Those LS blocks have a ton of fins on them and hard to get to places.

99, YES they do!! Lots of nooks and crannies!! for junk to collect.
Its clean enough for now till I have it all mocked up in the truck, I will be redoing the firewall (it sits inside the cab 2" DO TO PAN) Then Ill get it really clean and replace all the gaskets and paint it.

great fab work, I actually like a motor way back in the engine bay, so I appreciate your creative solution.

The Intake is from Summit and has the 92mm Throttle Body. (Dad surprised me with it!) I was talking about getting it and next thing you know there it was.

getting serious with it. be cool to add some factory beads into the new panel. I'm a sucker for the factory firewall beads. that intake is very nice!

Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D

Thanks Greg.

Pic 1 The start of the trans cover.

Pic 2 didnt bother showing all the pieces, but you get the idea of the direction I'm going in.

Pic 3 The cover will be removable so I used Rivnuts

Pic 4 Almost done, a few more small pieces remain.

Pic 5 A shot from the front.

Although this is not a super fancy creative approach to this project it serves it's purpose.

Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D

Looks good to me Mark.
Why does I t have to be fancy? I asume you use some sort of carpet on the floor, so you don’t see it...

Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D

Thanks Kees, What I mean about "fancy" is no bead rolling or anything of that nature. And yes it will be covered so it will not be seen.
