Just read your tread....wow. You are inspiring. My 68 has been in process, ground up for 15 years and not worked on in 10.

Need any parts? I have a 68 front clip I'm selling on the parts board and a 2wd blazer project I'm parting out.

Anytime.

Windshield went in this afternoon, but may just be temporary. It's not fitting well in the corners. We're going to let it settle for now and if it doesn't pull in they might have to try with another windshield. Along the top edge you can see waves in the glass and I don't think the sides are curved back enough.

No idea. I called safelite and they used one they had in stock. Glass was listed at $175.61, gasket at 23.34, labor was 60, plus 24.99 for mobile service.

The windshield has SGC on it, which I believe stands for Safelite Glass Company and a part number of DW-685. I don't know who really made the glass. I do know it doesn't fit well. But it's guaranteed.

Re: Over 25 Years Later, Finally My 71 C-10 Truck Build

I don't think the windshield fits right. I'll have to call and have them redo it. There is no way it'll seal out rain, let alone a car wash.

Spent part of the evening working on lights. The brake switch got replaced and the pedal hieght adjusted. Started installing the manual throttle cable. The hole is cut in the bezel, the cable is run through it, but it doesn't have enough threads showing through for the little chrome round thingy to grab onto. I ran out of light, so I'll have to pull it tomorrow and try again. Front parking lights are working (mostly). I need to put in new bulbs. This weekend is going to be busy finishing up a lot of these little things. Sorry no pics tonight. The sun just isn't staying up like it used to.

Sorry about the windshield. Hope they get a better fitting one installed or get it fitting right.

Awesome project and looking great so far!

Your truck is the same color as mine that I bought a couple of weeks ago:

According to the PO, the color is a 1969 Chevy color, code 55, "Azure Turquoise".

Thanks a lot. Yours looks great too, congrats on the purchase. What color is the interior and could you post some pics of it? I'd like to see the SPID in the glove box also if you could.

Back in my navy days I was stationed at Bangor, WA and one of my friends had a neighbor with a 69 4x4 shortbed that was the same color. All original and original owner. I wanted that truck badly, but he decided to keep it. I was going to sell mine at the time if I could get his.

Re: Over 25 Years Later, Finally My 71 C-10 Truck Build

Today I worked on getting all the lights working. Had one bent tab in a socket and a couple bad bulbs. Cleaned up the front parking light lenses and put in the new gaskets. I finished up the manual throttle, but need to find something to anchor the cable to the firewall, it slips. Bolted on a license plate and headed down the highway.

I didn't get far though. I was short one exhaust clamp, and well, it slipped and drug a bit. And it just isn't running right yet. It's wierd because you can be rolling along at part throttle and it seems like it's missing or bogging, then all of a sudden it smooths out and the power is back. I'm beginning to think the distibutor is shot and the advance is only working part of the time. Oh, and I ran out of gas a few blocks from the house. I need to fix that gas gage.

I advanced the timing a bit, fiddled with the ECU settings and it's better, but inconsistant. The power steering pump is shot and nobody within 100 miles of me has it in stock. Totally serious. I need to order one in.

I got the seat mounts just about all done, just need to jack it up so I can reach a few of the bolts and tighten it down. Laid in some more fatmat under the driver side seat and onto the foot well area. I'll do the passenger side before the seat is bolted in tight. The seat belts are in now too. Painted the headlight buckets. They should be dry tomorrow so I can get those installed.

The best part of the day was when my daughter came out and asked for a ride to a friends house. She was hoping it would be in the truck and it was. Before we left she was looking at the door locks and asked if they work. I said sure, but you have to use a key on the outside. She asked if I was going to put buttons in. I laughed and said no. We don't need no stinking buttons.

Then I went to pick up some food at the hardees wher my son works. He was just finishing his shift and asked if I brought the truck. I did. He asked me to wait for him to clock out for the 3 block ride home. He put his bike in the back.

So I need to order some parts, tighten some bolts, get the rear glass in, install the door panels, visors, etc. and then just tinker with it to shake out the little problems. It's almost there.

Punch list:
Front bumper top brackets
Polish other wheels
heater box
fat mat
adjust e-brake cable
wire tie wiring on frame
headlight buckets, clean and paint, adjusters?
tailgate letters
door panel upper trim and panel screws (need to order)
kick panel vents, paint and mount
rear window
horn
inner fenders (need new nuts, paint bolts)
gas gage reads high
Cowl shims
power steering pump
distributor

Re: Over 25 Years Later, Finally My 71 C-10 Truck Build

Plugging away is all I can do at this point. It's just a task list of: find this part, clean and/or paint it, install it. I ordered a new distributor. Skip White 65,000 volt HEI for $48 delivered. No brainer.

Punch list:
Front bumper top brackets (paint)
Polish other wheels
heater box
fat mat (almost there)
adjust e-brake cable
wire tie wiring on frame
headlight buckets, adjusters?
tailgate letters
Need some door panel screws, eustations to match panels
kick panel vents, paint and mount
rear window
horn
inner fenders (need new nuts, paint bolts)
gas gage reads high
Cowl shims
power steering pump
distributor (ordered)
Hook power lead to lighter
Washer pump
finish exhaust
manual throttle cable firewall clamp/clip (keep it in the right spot)
carpet/pad
upholstory recovered
alignment

Good work man. Gotta be a nice feeling to get to take out for a ride and to have the kids interested in it.

At the snail's pace I'm going on mine the kids will be in college by the time I get it back to being a driver again. The problem is one just started preschool the other just turned 1. I suppose that just gives me a few more years to try and warp their minds into this crazy hobby.

Of my 3 kids, only my son was was interested in a ride until it was painted. If you hadn't noticed the title of this thread, snails have been passing me by for years. My oldest is in her 2nd year of college and my yougest is a highschool freshman. This truck sat for years with barely a glance. It has been a very busy 3 years on this build and it's great to have a driver again.

Although, it continues to have issues. I advanced the timing a smidge and it runs better. I drove it this afternoon for quite a while and it never overheated, but it was trying to stall at idle. I nursed it home and open the hood to find a dropping fuel pressure. The line was very warm and I'm thinking vapor lock. It's out cooling down now and I'll check it later to see how it is. I have a hard time believing the filters are clogging. Everything was either new or completely washed out before installing.

If it is getting hot with that return line recircing at the pump inlet, I'll have to get another line back to the tank so it can mix and cool the fuel. Another day, another problem to solve.

I love driving it though. Every trip in town the past few days has been in the truck and it turns heads everywhere.

Re: Over 25 Years Later, Finally My 71 C-10 Truck Build

Took it for another drive, just down to the school to watch my sons football game. It ran great, no problems. So I have a heat related fuel pressure problem. Yippee!

My daughter came to the game after her volleyball practice. She waited for me in the truck while I talked to the coach. When I got there she said the guys talking by the car next to mine were talking about my truck and that one of them said he didn't have the patience to do something like that.

Time to order parts. I need those little plastic nuts for the headlight adjustment screws. Sheesh, never ending it seems.

Re: Over 25 Years Later, Finally My 71 C-10 Truck Build

Been a busy week between work, watching my kids activities and going to see the Foo Fighters wednesday night

Today I took some time to do a few things though. First I swapped the distributor and it is running smoother and more consistant. Now I can continue to adjust the EFI tune. Looks the same, I know, but you guys love your pics...

Finally got the wife out for a ride. She loves it but said the fuel pump is too loud. Considering the rear window isn't in yet and the side windows were down, I think it'll get quieter.

When we got home I figured I better get the headlights in, hich means touching up the paint on the grill. I got it masked off and sprayed some semi gloss black rustoleum, so maybe by tomorrow it'll be dry enough to touch. The headlight buckets were painted last weekend. I picked up new headlight adjuster screws and plastic nuts at Napa. So tomorrow I should be able to finish that.

While I was painting I figured it was a good time to do the kick panel vents. These were my originals and in surprisingly good shape. I cleaned them up and sanded the one side of one that had some surface rust. The paint on these things practically rubs off. All of the brackets, etc got sprayed also, so another bit I'll be able to check off the list soon.

I got another layer of insulation for the floor this week. I saw it on another thread (gringoloco's) and figured for the minimal cost, why not.
http://www.lobucrod.com/index.html
Gringo's thread... http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...64#post4898864

That's probably it for today. I have to watch the paint dry. I'm not ready yet for the 50 mile drive to the show tomorrow in this, but I'm still going. Maybe I'll get to bring home some cool bits from the swap meet. Daburb is trying to talk me into buying his vac/tach dash. I'm trying to talk him into buying my 2wd blazer frame.

Very nice work. Looked through the build and can't believe how much you've done. I think it would look cool to chrome those wheels.

Thanks. I can't believe it either. My wife can though. Chrome? Maybe, but I like how it turned out with just some elbow grease, and a buffing mini ball.

Made it to the swap meet, didn't even go into the show area. Driving by though there was only one lonely 67-72 truck there. I got an incredible pile of stuff from the swap though.

You probably will NOT believe this, but everything in the first picture except the hub caps and 2 mini window cranks in the right upper corner I got from one guy for $50. The stuff mentioned above cost me another $12. I love a good deal. I turned down some body parts (door, fender, cowl) he was including in that price because they wouldn't fit in my car and they had some rust issues, etc. he recently finished his 67 truck build and was getting rid of everything left over in one shot.

Besides this stuff I bought a new mirror, brake pedal/trim, neutral safety switch and the correct headlight adjusters from Kevin (daburb) Gramentz of Bowtie Truck Stop, who was there. If you are looking for new or used parts for 47-07 chevy trucks around MN here give him a call or e-mail at 612-242-9925, daburb@gmail.com

Re: Over 25 Years Later, Finally My 71 C-10 Truck Build

Went out to the garage to see if I could get the headlights in and working. I managed to get part way there. I had a box of headlights in the attic, went through and found a pair of halogens. One ended up being burnt. Plugged the one good light in on the passenger side and it worked on high beam, not on low. Swapped it over to the other side and neither worked. Test light confirmed lack of power on all those circuits. I have a couple grounds that need bolted up, but I think I'll end up tracing it out to find the fault because the test light didn't show power with it grounded direct to the battery terminal. So I have more work to do, but here is a shot of my partial success...

Here's a couple examples of what a few minutes with fine steel wool can get you.

Saw these at the swap meet and had to have them...

Not sure if I'll use them, but I wanted them anyway.
