Re: 1965 LWB Stepside Build

Thanks guys...I am going to paint it the same color as the rallys... gun metal gray. I think I may buy 4 more of these wheels and have a set of 5 matching and then eventually sell these 15x7 rally's.

Today I received some new rally cap emblems I special ordered from a seller in Portugal on Etsy. I told him what colors I wanted. I think these will look good on the caps...I will be keeping the caps on the new wheels. Here is a sneak peak...

That flasher looks real good down there. I wish they sold just the knob separately!

Thanks Christian! I had to hunt high and low and got lucky to find that switch with the Bow Ties...the other switch I have has no markings on it at all.

Oof, that's more than I paid for the switch itself with a GMC knob on it!

I've read that the 2040-parts website is a scam website.

Finally started working on my spare wheel...drilled and tapped for the truck rally cap and added a custom made red center decal.

Re: 1965 LWB Stepside Build

Just been driving the truck and getting ready for my move north. Moving to upstate NY in the next few months. My wife has already started her new job up there...living with her mom for now. Getting the house here ready to sell and looking for a house near Syracuse.

Finally installed my red rally cap decals...I like the look...a little different and a small pop of color. I also painted my new spare wheel to match the gray on the rally's..but no picture yet. Going to try and get the tire mounted later this week also.

Re: 1965 LWB Stepside Build

Thanks guys, I appreciate it. I haven't gotten the spare mounted yet...maybe today. Guess I have been lazy.

I have had the truck back on the road since early December last year and just hit 3000 miles. I did an oil change at 500 miles and also changed out the plugs at 1000 miles as they were fouled from when I was tuning the engine from running super rich.

I did install sun visors this week though. I went with black since my seat was black, but maybe I should have done gray since my roof is silver...either way, I am not used to them yet since the passenger side never had one and I haven't had one on the DS in years.

I like the black visors. Ties in well with the gauge cluster and seat

Thanks Christian...I didn't notice them as much today when I ran errands...so I just need to get used to something above my head!

Re: 1965 LWB Stepside Build

Finally got my new wheel mounted for the spare. I like it a lot, even if they put a small chip in the wheel paint when they dropped something on it...I already touched it up and it wasn't very big....plus they didn't charge me anything to mount and balance it.

Whenever I need new tires for the truck (probably 2035), I will make all 5 tires the same.

Re: 1965 LWB Stepside Build

Really haven't done much to the truck lately...maintenance mainly. I greased the front end last weekend and this week I put in new sway bar end links and sway bar front bushings. WHAT A DIFFERENCE that made! Made the truck handle so much better...the squeaks are gone...just so much better, it's like night and day.

Read through the entire thread, great work. I have learned a ton and been inspired from 'someone who knew nothing and forgot most of it'...you do amazing work and the truck looks great! Thank you for sharing the details of this build.

Thank you very much! That means a lot to me. This board has given so much back to me I just hope I can inspire or help someone with their truck.

I just hope when I start my next truck, I haven't forgotten too much.
