How long are you going to be in ABQ? Maybe we can meet for lunch before you leave. LMK.

Yes I have! I'm also taking classes during all of this (business management since I have the tech thing covered).
I'll post some pics of the shop this weekend. |

No I got the PTE-H8013-1
They have 1 7/8" Primaries and 3/8" flanges. The H8012 has 1 3/4" primaries and says it has 1/4" flanges (though I think that's a mis-print). |

Ya that was great Rob. That place is littered with vintage steel. I'm looking forward to more 'desert tours.' Got anything we can wrench on?

Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
Pics of the shop as promised. It's a modest little shop (20x36) nestled among some enormous trees. It does have a full second floor for tons of storage. It's over 7' tall at the peak up there so no crouching over trying to move stuff around.
It needs a shop door put in and currently has only 'man doors.' I haven't had a chance to set anything up yet (five days/week in NM doesn't help), but here it is: |

... more including the inside, retracting ladder/stairs, second floor storage, and the door/pad plan. I'm going to make the right side side a 36' deep double bay and the left side shop/work space. That huge work bench in the center will be pushed to the far end by the wood-burning stove (to the right of where the cherry picker is in the pics):

Sweet shop! All you need is a big roll up door and walla! Instant shop. One thing though. I don't think you have enough room to park you c5 project truck. Why don't you drop it off at my house and i keep it "safe" for you

Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
Nice shop!
I don't think it will take long to decide on building a real set of stairs into that attic space. I did the "ladder thing" for a while, but it really makes it hard to use the attic for parts that you want easy access to. I found that a set of stairs built into a corner with a single winder is reasonably space-efficient, and lets you reach the top step at the highest part of the peak. You also don't bang your head into the rafters all the way down! My other vote would be for lots of KILZ paint on all that wood (white) and as many overhead shop lights as you can afford. There's nothing like a well-lit and bright workshop to inspire you....

Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
Have you thought about a wider door? I've just seen so many guys with skinned up machines from backing out of narrow doors. I went 12' wide with mine. I know that's wide but I like it.
Anywho, either way that's going to make an awesome shop for ya! |

Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
Standard garage door is 9' wide x 7' tall. But if you go with the standard double wide I think it's 16'. It takes some wall space, but in the summer it's nice to have the wide opening for a breeze. Get the best insulated door you can, steel inside and out. Easier to heat in the winter. Congrats!
