Yes it's alpine green...or Detroit diesel alpine green as on the can. First time I saw the paint color on someone else's motor On this site I fell in love with it. It looked so industrial and tough. But still kept the classic original look. So i went with that plus I think it complements the body color. As for the carb all I know is that it's a 600 edlbrock got it as payment for doing some motor work on a buddies Project car. How would I check? And for the script I'm trying to figure out what color to detail it. I was thinking black to go with everything else and make it pop or maybe a silver...or white.... darnit! Now ya got me over thinking it. Haha

I have the EDL-1404, 500 CFM, manual choke on my '68 292 L6 in the '68 Orange Stepside. [.030 Badger pistons, Crane 260H cam, 1.84'' intake valves, Offy intake, Cliffy headers, Pertronix Ignitor II.]
I have a Carter Performance Series AFB 9635 600 CFM on the 350 V8 in my '71 GMC Jimmy. It's basically equivalent to the EDL-1405 600 CFM manual choke. I use the Edelbrock book to tune it.
EDL-1403 is the 500 CFM elec choke, and EDL-1406 is the 600 CFM elec choke.
500 CFM is enough for a built 292 [+.030 =296 C.I.] in my opinion.

Your carb should be stamped on the front left with the model number.

Both pix are of same engine, top is a couple years ago and bottom is from 2002-05 build period.

Basic Black for the CHEVROLET on your valve cover, it would match the headers and pulleys. Of course Chevy Engine Orange letters would really stand out.

Turn out it is a 1405. With a manual choke. Sooo. A 600? I know edlbrocKS are widely adjustable from what Iv been told... how "low" could I turn this down. 600 for the motor right now is a bit much without a cam but I figured turning the fuel down a bit might help so itdoesn't just flood out whenever I want to run it

Yeah, TJ's rig with the forty-bore, lump ports, bumpy cam and V8-size valves could do OK with a 600.
But the AFB design will let you get away with overcarburization, because it will only draw the fuel/air mixture you need, it won't overfeed it. Watch out for your own lead foot, however. You can try it. If you wash out your rings in 2 weeks, then trade down for a 500 CFM.

Definitely. TJ's motor is similar to what mine is going to end up at. New pistons. .040 over bore. built head with lump ports and 1.94 valves roller rockers and a nice and lumpy cam. Hoping to balance everything while it's Apart. This is also over next year or so. But in the mean time I'm running my 292 in the 65 so I can drive it around. I'm just looking to pep it up and make it fun to drive, with a little more power than factory.

I'm running a bone stock 292 with an 600 edel, clifford intake, headers, and hei currently. Haven't flooded the thing out yet. Pulled a hill the other day in 4th with it at 1/2 throttle...no bog...accelerated like a dream. BUT, my truck is only around 4000 pounds compared to a 4x4 C20 which I'm sure adds another easy 1000 pounds which will have an effect. 600 cfm edels have been run several times on 283's and 305's. A hopped up 292 will enjoy a 600 believe me. No jet down needed or anything like that. Larry at T6 put a 600 on a bone stock 250...talk about overkill but it ran fine. Now....my hopped up 292 will be running either a 600 edel or a 625 demond...haven't decided yet. I didn't go with a crazy lumpy cam either. Specs are: 268H duration. 219 @ .050 .486 lift on a 110 lobe center. Will be lopier than stock for sure but not like a BBC. I made this engine more for "driver rpm" torque...this engine will peak torque around 3500 rpm and horse power at 5500(little low I believe), with that and my tko600 it'll be an optimum cruiser but will still embarrass a 350/290. lol So its really all in how you build the thing. The 292 in my 66 I drive like a stolen truck....love making that old beat up 6 scream. With the 600 I mainly noticed...little better acceleration(especially pulling hills), and more top end power....the headers help with that to. So your 600 will be fine...especially if its fine on my stock 292. The 500 was considered more of the "if your concerned about mileage" carb. lol And if you really are then put a 500 quadra jet on there.

EDIT: speaking of chevy script valve covers...here's how I painted mine on my 66's 292.

Sweet. Thanks tj. I'm happy to know u ran the 600 on a bone stock motor with minimal issues. flooding the motor was my only real concern with that big of carb. Now I just can't wait to fire the motor. Going to run it on the stand and get it ready to drop in I'm hoping the headers will clear the engine mounts.

The headers should clear the mounts fine, but you'll have a somewhat fun time putting the clutch linkage in. lol That's why I went with shorties. Here's a video of how my 292 performs in my 66. Mind you it has 148,000+ on it and compression is around 95 pounds(vs150) in all the cylinders. And she still does 5k rpms! lol

Yeah, copy that. Does that allow you to use a 250 cam?
I had a '67 K/10 454 Suburban with tanks in the rear. When the PO's generic electric pump burned out at work, I was able to cut in the stock mechanical fuel pump and get home. Later I went to a Holley Red electric fuel pump, but didn't use the cut-off safety [oil pressure] switch. Fuel select stayed on (pilot error). A backfire caught my oily K&N air cleaner on fire and it was melting thru the plastic clear fuel filter just when help showed up with big red CO 2 bottles. The Sub's been down ever since. Still a ''future project'' but I'm not so keen on rebuilding the BBC.
Moral: don't use plastic fuel filters and don't skip the safety cut-off switch.
Now I use the Holley pump to siphon gas out of jerrycans into my trucks. Electric fuel pumps work great when you respect them.

Yeah, I could use an off the shelf 250 cam if needed. I use the metal filters most of the time. lol I have a plastic filter on my GMC but it has the V6 and the filter is mounted near the fender well instead of the engine...that one also has an electric pump.

To all my fellow inliners. I too have cleaned my 292 but I'm having a hard time bolting up my engine with the bellhousing n trans. Some say I might have it pinched as far as with the trans. Any tricks of thr trade that I can do in order to have it flush and hooked up again?

If this is a AT tranny It sounds Like the convertor is not all the way in the tranny. And If you force it you can damage the PUMP on the tranny.

Alot of people do as they are very affordable. I like the tube style better so I got clifford headers.

Mine was a "custom" cast iron manifold.
That was before aftermarket companies were selling the Fenton remake units.
