Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I didn't get much work done today. I just kinda wanted to get home after work. But I did build lower link mounting brackets and got them tacked on. And I started on some tabs for the front and rear. I also worked on a couple more threaded bungs. Not much for today.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I finished the reinforcement gussets for the upper shock plates I welded to my shock c.member. I also cut out the entire original fuel fill nipple for the blazer tank & got it prepped in anticipation of welding in the new 2" inlet nipple tomorrow after work.

I was suprised to learn the plate surrounding the original nipple was what appears to be brass??

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

We continued working on the '66 C20 Custom Camper to get her ready for the World of Wheels in KC on the 12th-14th of Feb. We are repainting the bed wood & wear strips factory black, finished correcting some of the exhaust hangers, welded the exhaust splices back together, doing trouble-shooting on the Turbo 400 and correcting the rear wiring harness.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Just picked up a nearly perfect GMC tailgate for my 66. Pretty happy about that. Have to strip it prime it and paint in the same color as my truck and then paint the GMC logo to make it look swank.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I got my lower links made. Now I don't have to keep setting my pinion angle and square it up everytime I work on it lol.

That looks good, but why did you go with angled Lowers?

To keep it triangulated so I don't have to run a pan hard or watts link.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

whohoo!! I finally got the stuck screw out so I could remove the interior door panel on the driver's side. I hate stuck screw's, bolts, etc. Especially when the PO uses JB Weld.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I finished the rear shock c.member. I welded 2 gussets to better support the upper shock plates & hit the whole c.member w/some 60-grit to clean it up & make it uniform.

I removed the gas tank from my 68 & cut the filler neck off (that's what I'm using as the fuel fill in the bed of the 64). I cut the 'smallish' blazer inlet nipple completely out of the blazer tank & made a 'plug' (patch piece) for the new 2" OD nipple. I still need to clean up the opening in the plug to match the 2" OD inlet pipe. Once I get that done, the 2" pipe gets welded to the plug & the plug gets welded to the tank where the original inlet was.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Prep'd & primed bed wood & wear strips, to make ready for semi-gloss enamel, oil base paint.

We also installed the new tail light/reverse light harness, license plate lights, flywheel dust cover, stainless steel door sill covers, wired the electric choke and installed missing bolts, nuts and washers in the bed wood.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I hope you guys aren't getting sick of my Camaro Dash posts....

Did a test fitting today of the switches. Using all the stock 65 switches except the wiper switch. I was even able to retain the heater switch that you pull out for air and turn for heat.

I had to make a 1/2" high sheet metal z-kick riser for the front of the glove box so the stock Camaro cardboard box would clear the heater plenum. Turned out pretty sweet.

Now I have to lay out some cash for gauges and a gauge pod for the speedometer area.

The dash needs some filler and metal work but for now I plan to run it as is untill next winter. Then tear it all back down for bodywork and paint.

Like I said, hope I am not boring ya'll with this install.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Today I did a bunch of welding on my rear end. I put some air to the bags and went up and down a few times. I need to build some mounts for the gas tank next.
